Complete lack of originality in this industry

This industry is so lacking in original ideas and marketing strategies its amazing. Thats surprising with how forward thinking the adult industry is regrading technology.

Content wise its a joke. I've seen threads where people rip Hollywood for coming out with absolute shit, all while posting under a banner ad for policemen.net and bigsausagepizza. Are you joking? Good thing the mainstream press doesnt pay too close attention to porn otherwise they would stop trashing the unoriginality that is reality tv and transfer their ire to us. Its also no surprise that companies that do have an original bone in their bodies, Bang Bros, Nasty dollars, StreamRay all lead the pack and make major coin. But there comes a time when even those companies need to stop counting the $$ enough to be innovative. Real companies never stop striving, never stop re-inventing themselves, never stop staying ahead of the curve. im so tired of hearing a product anouncement from a new company portraying themselves as the new Microsoft of our industry with tons of fresh ideas and new concepts that will make us all rich and transform the way we do business. Then its released and it, of course, has "Cash" somehwere in their affiliate program title and a pic of $$ on their webpage and "high converting niche sites" that include an anal, cum, teen, and reality site. If you are just riding on the coattails of those before you and want to make a quick buck capatilizing on the leftovers thats fine, more power to ya, just fucking say so. At least it would be refreshing honesty.

"I have zero originality and talked some investers into giving us some cash but dont want to fuck it up by taking a chance so im going to throw some absolute shit at the wall, and call it 'fresh' and 'new' and 'hot' and everybody will know its not 'fresh', 'new', nor 'hot' but im going to pay $40 pps so they will all chime in and say its 'fresh', 'new', and 'hot', then im going to sit back and hopefully make a living and relive my frat house youth"

And us affiliates are no better. As George costanza would say about toilet paper, it never changes, always the same. Same with TGP's, free sites, link lists, hubs, galleries. All with trades, bought traffic. just once it would be nice to look at something and say, "wow, this person really has it together, thats fresh, nice new idea. Great way to market that" Then of course, as in any industry it would be copied to death but at least it would change things up.

This industry and the people behind are is its own worst enemy and eventually, if we dont come up with new ideas, it will bite us in the ass. you can already see it happening. I used to be in retail and the mantra was the worst thing you could do was lower your price to get new business, becuase if all you can do to grow is sacrafice your margins your eventually fucked. same with adult and we are already seeing it. If the only new ideas that we have our price (higher pps, lower monthly rates) and more hard core eventually you cant drop it any lower and you cant put anything harder out there.

If anybody is or knows of a program or affiliate doing something original please discuss and let us know, maybe im wrong. (also because i dont have an original bone in my body and need to copy it to afford my habits )

I guess your two options are to whine about it or do something about it.

There are innovations in the industry but they distance themselves from the affiliate model and saturating the web with free content - Suicide Girls is a good example.

I spend a good deal of time coming up with innovative ways to sell the same ole' shit. Luckily for me, it isn't time wasted.

It's all about what sells. And if that is not necessarily original it doesn't matter. Nothing new about naked ladies.

But there is something new about naked ladies half way across the world fingering their pussy and chatting with you in real-time. The content distribution model is where the originality is lacking.

Yeah, but there are new ways to portray those naked ladies and market them.

Yeah, I agree.

PS, hope you don't think I was being mean with my above post, just stating my twisted opinion.

I think people need to innovate as well. Come up with something that no one has thought about. But the thing is, you don't need the cash to back it up. Just a good contact or two.

Bring your ideas to the table with the right people, work together on something and change things.

Don't wait for someone else to do it, or complain when they don't. Be pro-active.

We are selling the portrayal of sex. There is really not much we can innovate. Sure someone can come up with some new or lame hook/story. Others can attempt to either jump on some new found niche or worse attempt to make one up that does not exsist yet thinking they can create a fetish.
Some just go after something established and attempt to either do it better than the rest or hope they can fool enough people with trash and trickery to make the money they desire.

I will not speak for the affiliate side, again there is only so many ways to gather and send traffic. Some specialize in one or two of the many ways to do it. Occassionally someone either tries or does re-invent the wheel, but often the old wheel works just fine.

You keep mentioning "we" like we're all family. Don't worry about other people's failure to create Atticus, focus on yourself. I'm also a firm believer in "if you've got something good, shut your mouth and try to take it to the moon". My ideas are innovative, original, and mine. Just because you don't notice innovation doesn't mean it doesn't occur - it just hasn't been layed out on a platter for you to notice.

I say we as in "the industry". I do like to think that i am being innovative with the things that i do, and it has been successful, and of course im not going to shout how i do it. My last sentence about sharing was somewhat in jest.

My post was mainly for the big playas in the industry. because like it or not our fortunes rise and fall as an industry. We can have the greatest ideas in the world but it can be hard to sell to surfers who have been fucked over for years.

I'll agree that there are many imitators pushing out the same shit.

Sometimes I think my site is too weird... www.sploshme.com -- it's such a British UK niche, but a growing number of our signups are from the US.

The industry image is painted with a brush of low-income investments tied up with trends. Innovation is a more serious investment. Goals and ambitions are in many cases, quite small. However, those small ambitions are supported at great length by larger businesses looking for stability.

Innovative? Time will tell and there has been little time. This business is barely removed of its umbilical cord. We tend to forget that.

Innovative? The existence of this business alone is innovative.

Innovative? Many times, innovative occurs on the backends of programs / businesses.

Financial reports are not impressed by innovative, but by decimal points. Decimal points fuel business decisions.

Join4Free is a program that is innovative. Innovative is a term that is applicable, but extremely profitable is a more important descriptor. If we could reinvent the program 1000 times over, we would.

Slippery slope at the end of the day.

Just my contribution to the thread.
