can someone explain why NOT to use godaddy?

i've heard people say here on gfy not to use godaddy. I still don't quite understand the "why" behind that. I have all of my sites registered through godaddy and their private registration service. should i stop doing that and switch to someone else?

I've heard from a number of people that GoDaddy will very easily suspend a registration on spam complaints or other complaints with no notice. Because of this (hearing it from people I know) I avoid them 110%.

www.moniker.com is where it's at

To protect yourself, GoDaddy domain mailers should be can-spam compliant and consist of only your own lists. Most webmasters who get their account suspended gave surfers a reason to complain.

The other occasional complaint is that a renewal didn't work right and the domain was lost. So don't wait until 3 hours before expiration to renew. That's a no-brainer at any registrar. You are allowing no time to correct problems.

We use directnic.com and coolness.com > www.coolness.com rocks and we are transferring our domains over to them.

- Backordered a domain, godaddy said you have it, but it wasnt true. 2 days after I got back my bo credit.

but everything is fine with them

I have a few domains with them, and have heard that people have had the domains suspended, and the traffic lost, because someone said that they were spamming. The thing is, that ANYONE can say they are spamming.

I have never gad any trouble with them, and used directnic before - they are good too - but godaddy is less $, and more efficient IMHO...

From reading the thread it's pretty clear - if you're a spammer, don't come to GoDaddy. I don't see anything wrong with that. Let other registrars deal with them

As already noted, they're a bit extreme with mail complaints (not just spam). I also know of domains being stolen through godaddy.

The only registar I'll ever work with is directnic.com.

Someone got my password, logged in, changed my mail, I got no warning of the cange, then stole my domain, and changed the mail back. When I found out I called them, they looked at it and saw what happened, and told me they would do nothing because it was done using my password (so it was me, rigtht?). Fuck them.

same thing happened to me (almost) someone logged and pushed a domain out of my account

called my dedicated account rep

asked for the previous registration info (me)
the ip logs for the day the domain was changed
and the printed the new whois info
and turned it over to the police department
got my domain back pretty quickly

There are reports of godaddy taking away domains they believed were overly offensive, including adult - do some googling around regarding this topic if considering using/staying with godaddy ...

And just because one has thousands of domains with them already, doesn't necessarily make them any "safer" in regards to godaddy's policies.

Seriously, do NOT use godaddy.

Everybody saying they have had no issues for x years are happy now, but when the shit hits the fan - you'll wish you'd stayed away from them!

I got a single SPAM complaint (I do not mail AT ALL - bulk or otherwise). Godaddy then proceeded to "steal" my domain from me and charged me a handy ransom of about $100 to "clean up the remaining SPAM complaints"!!!

Had I not received the email within the 48 hours they allowed, for example if i'd have been on vacation - my business would have been in the shitter! I would have lost tens of thousands of dollars worth or business. All so I could get a cheap ass domain name and save a few bucks.

Seriously, spend a few more dollars on the purchase and don't be sorry down the line.

My opinion.

Same happened to me ordered a domain which was allready taken, took over a week to get refunded. Also imo its cluttered with ads and other features they are trying to sell so I stick to www.domainsite.com cheap, fast and easy.
