This is a very complicated issue.
But I will say that the only circumstances that I feel a woman should have the option for abortion is in cases of rape or in the case that the mother might not survive the pregnancy (serious health risks)

I remember being in highschool sitting at my desk as a girl was sharing the sonogram of a child she was deciding not to have. She commented that she wasn't going to go thru with it because she wanted to (for lack of the exact phrase) "look good this summer"

It hurt to hear someone talking so uncaring and cold about the life of a yet to be "born" yet still developing child

It should not be used as a means of contraception. Sure one "mistake," yeah I get it. I'm not gonna hold it against someone.

However if you have had more than 1, you need to start evaluating your life. If you have had more than 2, you are seriously fucked in the head. I don't know how destroying what could have become your child could not fuck up your head.

Minors should not be allowed to have abortions without a parent or guardian's signature.
Sorry, you can cry all the bullshit you want to about how some girls will not be able to discuss this with parents, they should have considered that before they got into the situation.

Also, I see the point that people are making is that it's doing the children a favor, because they won't grow up in a bad envoriment.

My best friend was adopted, and is a highly intelligent individual, and my life wouldn't have been the same without his input thru the years.

With that said, I feel that adoption should be offered as an alternative to abortions

All alternatives should be discussed. The girl should have to seek counseling first, all the alternatives laid out, and then make that decision and if under 18 along with a parent or court appointed guardian.

I don't have a problem with abortion besides these two things...

1. It being used as birth control. If a woman has three abortions (not rape, incest etc), just freakin' sterilize her.

2. I don't think the MAN has enough say in it. I agree it's a woman's body, but if SHE chooses to have the baby, when the father doesn't want to, it should be HER that raises the baby on her own.

Spare me the "It's his responsibility" comments. It IS his responsibility, but it's ALSO hers. She's the one deciding, sometimes without regard to what the man wants or is capable of taking care of, both emotionally AND financially.

Perhaps some sort of arbitration (I can't believe I'm suggesting ANY legal process here) is best. The man gets a voice, and the woman gets a voice. If the arbitrator decides the man SHOULD be responsible because he's capable, so be it. Then the woman gets the ultimate final choice.

If the arbitrator decided the man ISN'T responsible because he ISN'T capable of support, the women can STILL have the final say on whether or not to keep the baby, but without any financial recourse on the man.

I am pro choice .. but i wish there was more support for young girls and guys that make this choice. when i was 15 my girlfriend of 2 years got pregnant and we didn't know what to do ... we never told our parents .... we just saved the money and got it done in a shit place. The doctor kept telling her to keep her legs up because she kept moving them.... then he told here "I know you know how to keep your legs up ...that's how you got like this in the first place" This really hurt us both and we had no one to talk to about it. she was sick for days after and to this day i talk to her because we have that bond. i seriously think about that child a lot especially after having 2 kids with my wife ...

Well as I stated above, children should not be able to do this without parental or guardian consent. And this is exactly why.

You had no advocate during the whole process, you had no emotional, or psychological support.

I'm up close and personal on an almost daily basis with the issue since my wife works for Planned Parenthood (for those of you that don't know, they're a non-profit orginization that does counseling for pregnant women regarding abortion and most of their clinics provide abortion services). The clinic she works at has weekly bomb threats and yesterday (this is an example of the constant harrassment) when they came to work, they found the entire front of the building smeared with human feces. Lots of people we meet in community will have nothing to do with us once they learn that she works at Planned Parenthood.

Moral of the story: there is nothing crazier than a fanatical Christian.

Keep it legal. But let's try to combat the root of the problem. And make those who want one take some educational classes and learn all their options, followed by a counseling session.

The clinic she works at has weekly bomb threats and yesterday (this is an example of the constant harrassment) when they came to work, they found the entire front of the building smeared with human feces. Lots of people we meet in community will have nothing to do with us once they learn that she works at Planned Parenthood. Moral of the story: there is nothing crazier than a fanatical Christian. __________________
