Well, fuck me...it's Jan 26th, I went to the PO Box today and guess what? Not a single 1099. Dumb-asses...I'm gonna declare it all anyway, so they're fucked for not reporting it properly I guess.

Acutally, I don't know. K-man you might be right...I've always gotten them in the past. By the way, I'm not talking specifically about AP here...I got none from anyone I've been promoting this past year, so maybe it's no longer necessary. Shit, no way the IRS trusts people to report all their income?!?!

They didnt come till mid to late Febuary last year.

That rule of thumb that you get em all before Febuary is BS.

This is the porn industry! They send em in Febuary.

(accountant mode on)

Form 1099-Misc is supposed to be sent to the recipients by Jan. 31, 2002, and to the IRS by Feb. 28, 2002. I think alot of sponsors don't read the whole thing and think they have until the end of February to send them out to people. If you are a corporation, they don't have to send you one.

You shouldn't rely on a sponsor to keep track of your income (ie only reporting what 1099's you receive), but keep track of it yourself.

Also the quandry of whether affiliates are subcontractors or whether the payments are for advertising only has been an ongoing battle. There are some sponsors who have decided that affiliates are not subcontractors and therefore don't bother with sending 1099s. Others see them as subcontractors and not advertisers and do send 1099s.

Regardless, it's all reportable business income to whoever they are paying.

Thanks, PK.

I do run this as a corporation (didn't last year) so that would explain the lack of 1099's.

Yes, they are supposed to be mailed by 1/31 so you can see why I expected to see some by 1/26...oh well, water under the bridge and all that rot. Thanks for the informative reply.
