I've either owned, or driven, all of the following cars. Any are great choices in that price range:

Acura NSX (the NSX got more power in 97, it's identical in speed to a current M3. Get a 2002+ for modern non-pop-up lights if that's your thing.)

BMW M3 (good car, practical too with back seats. Very bland looks, and every Asian college girl has a 3-series where I live, lol.)

Lotus Esprit V8TT (very fast, poor practicality, draws a happy crowd at every gas refill)

Porsche 911 Carrera 4S (not the new 997, last-gen 996 series, say a 2002. Great car, but also a dime a dozen depending where you live.)

Corvette Z06 (wasn't for me, piece of shit build quality, interior makes a rental car seem rich...very fast though, go drive one)

If it were me, it's the Lotus or NSX. Those two are the most exciting to drive on the list above by far. They're also not very practical, though the NSX has good trunk space and can be a commute car without a problem. Lotus is much faster however. Real toss up.

Underpowered?? Not really based on the weight to HP ratio. But I would agree that a little more balls cant hurt.

A friend of mine was looking to buy a nice sports car and was looking into either a Viper or a NSX... He ended up getting a Viper then a year or two later he got the NSX and got a comptech super charger package and it was well over 500 HP when he was done weighing twice as less then the Viper he had that was 550 stock..

Its all in what fits your style and how you can trick it out if you don't like one little thing about the car.. Everything these days can be tailored to your needs.

Tylo, no offense, but almost every claim in your post here, every single sentence, is wrong, lol. And I say that in a fun way in that you're trying to help out, not in a mean-GFY way trying to pick on you, I promise.

I know because my first NSX had a Comptech s/c kit on it a few years ago, serviced by Comptech themselves in the Bay Area, so it's something I have experience with. But your intentions are good, the NSX is knocked by idiots all too often, who have no time behind the wheel. In stock form, 1997+, it turns a 4.8 time to 60mph, and a 13.2 second 1/4 mile. Same as any stock 911 Carrera, C5 Vette, M3, M5, etc.

The older ones (pre-97) were much slower cars, so I don't place the blame solely at the feet of those claiming the NSX is "slow". They just don't know any better.

Bottom line is that you have to drive all the cars on these sorts of shopping lists, hard, to figure out which one is "best" for your needs. No doubt about it.

And thanks for trying to pimp the NSX, good to see.

But what I would get personally

NSX 75k to 90k

Mercedes-Benz
SLK AMG 55 45k to 65k
CLK AMG 55 55k to 65k

Lotus Elise 43k to 50k

Viper 70k to 85k

Porsche 997 70k to 100k

Noble M12 80k

BMW M3 50k to 65k

There is more but I am sure this is a good enough list for now.

Non taken but I fail to see where some of my claims are are false when I worked on the car myself and know the ins and outs of the car.. I would only say that one of the clames about 500+ hp was a little off cause it was bottle fed as well. so a 300 shot of NOS helped out.

In that price Range, the new C6 Z06 can't be beat.

Now that makes sense, you left out the NOS part.

No way a stock 6psi CT s/c on an NSX is putting out more than 450hp to the crank, 380hp to the wheels. So the 500hp claim seemed high to me, it was the lack of NOS info.

The weight was also way off as you described the NSX as weighing "half" of what the Viper did, which is pretty far off. A stock NSX weighs 3,100lbs wet, stock Viper GTS weighs right in the 3,400lbs wet range. Just 10% more.

You're right, but delivery doesn't even begin until January at the earliest, and dealers will be marking it up into the stratosphere. Figure at least a $15k markup for sure, no matter what anyone tells you.

Not sure I want to pay $90k for a Vette that will be worth less than half that in just two years...(based on existing Z06 resale info).

But for sure, my reference was to the C5 Z06 above, the C6 Z06 is a whole different animal in terms of capability. Much much faster.

Sorry for not droping that in there. I forgot all about the nos for a sec. cause we stuck it in the spare tire area and I forgot all about it until you said something about the power being way off.

About the weight I didnt mean to say half if I even did say that.. I said it weights a lot less.. 2799.9 lbs NSX the Viper is 3400lbs... its not a lot but its enough to tell a difference.

You're absolutely dreaming on that NSX weight. It's 3,010lbs if it's a coupe, which are as rare as hen's teeth post-95, and if it's a Targa (which 90% of them past 95 are) then it's 3,164lbs. Mine is, and I've corner balanced it myself.

Even the S2000 weighs 2810lbs. man and that car is a Miata.

But enough, I'll take NSX props any way I can get them, it's a very underhyped car that more people should add to these lists and drive before judging.

To each their own. Every stats page I see about the car weighs it in at around that but like you said no reason to argue about it..

Its an awesome car and I would love to own one sooner or later. I would buy an NSX before I would buy any yuppie mobile any day of the week. Every ass clown and there brother has an SL, M3, G35, 911 down here.. there like assholes, everyone has one.. But the NSX is pure sexiness at its best and you don't see them everywhere.
