When fuel finaly hits $10 per gallon in 5 years what will people do?

Im rich so I dont give a fuck Ill still be driving my hummer down the road without a care.. But will the roads be empty? Shit maybe Ill go broke since no one can spend money cause of fuel.. Hmm.

Maybe we should start saving gas money now.

What do you think?

We have been paying over $5USD equivalent for 1 US gallon for years. We are currently paying just under $6USD.

ONe of the biggest oil fields is right on our door step but the fucking government taxes it a lot.

Time to wake up and smell the roses

I pay $5.59 per gallon if you count it this way.. Everyone drive their cars as usual. You think $5 is high hahah :D

I think there would be abit less people on the streets when it gets over $10 per gallon. It will hit there some day. The oil is not unlimited.

More and more people are moving where I live - 90 minutes from ATL - and commuting. I would LOVE gas to be $10 a gallon; people would stop moving here!!

The way things are going, this would be a hell of a lot more expensive than paying 10 dollars per gallon of gas.

The problem is our government spending 300 billion on a pointless war when they could have used at least some of that money to research cheaper and more effective ways to extract hydrogen.

I can't even fathom how far 300 billion could be stretched for research and development.

Luckily, we've got it pretty good here in the southeast...some of the cheapest gas in the world. I thinks it's like 2.09 for unleaded right now, and as low as 1.79 in the suburbs.

If those 300 billions were spent is making US a better country (healthcare, security wise,etc..) and in Science research (from stem cell to oil alternatives) the world would be a very different place...

That's not how it works. We are WAY over budget have been since I can remember. Congress decides how much money goes where. It doesn't seem to matter if we really HAVE it or not. Just because we don't go into debt $300bil for the war doesn't mean that $300bil will go anywhere else.

Why not? The new Hummers (H3) already have the inline 5 cylinder that gets around 20 miles to the gallon.

Renewable, ethanol based fuel sounds promising, like the do in Brazil

That is if the greedy war mongers and their Arab business partners don't prevent it from happening here in the USA. If Brazil can kick the oil habit , there is no excuse for the USA not to be able to as well - wait maybe not.
Lets invade Iran instead.

http://www.azcentral.com/business/ar...azil16-ON.html

Three decades after the first oil shock rocked its economy, Brazil has nearly shaken its dependence on foreign oil. More vulnerable than even the United States when the 1973 Middle East oil embargo sent gas prices spiraling soaring, Brazil vowed to kick its import habit. Now the country that once relied on outsiders to supply 80 percent of its crude is projected to be self-sufficient within a few years.

I've been running bio-diesel in my 2003 jetta for a couple years now... 46MPG.

1100KM on a $40CDN tank.

Bio isn't capable of replacing diesel but it can help. It's way better for the environment and the engine. You're going to be seeing a lot more diesel engines in the near future, they're already the majority in Europe.

I'll get a fucking Prius. To be honest it's not driving and gas prices im worried about... it's food medicines and plastics production. And all the anti-nuke people will suddenly be welcoming the nuclear reactors when we can't transport grain around and food becomes too expensive.

I just don't understand why we aren't preparing for it NOW.. like TODAY.. not 5 years of meetings and plans.. start using some of that oil to make renewable energy sources even if they aren't mega efficient like solar and wind.. any oil used for that now will pay off in ten years once the net effect becomes positive and it's only going to be guzzled up in a SUV otherwise...

More expensive to use biofuel than oil? Here it's cheaper to fill your car with ethanol than regular 95 gas. Thats a good thing. Next car i'll get will be a flexifuel or pure ethanol. I don't need a large ass truck or SUV. Neither do you seriously.

No, I said it's currently more expensive to use hydrogen powered fuel cells because the extraction process is so expensive.

Grab a pitchfork and join the mob marching on the White House.

Hey, revolutions have been sparked by smaller things than ruinous inflation coupled with a 1930's style economic depression.

Nothing willl happen cause wages keep rising......... Economy just won't be as strong with cheap gas. Oil will soon be coming from the Caspian sea so prices will come down a bit soon.
