computer question

Anyone know if you can boot from a USB external Floppy drive? I have to reformat my computer and I need to install the SATA drivers when I do it. I haven't had a floppy in my PC in over a year probably two.

I have no use for the damn things but figured I'd get a USB external drive so I can use it on my laptop as well. Anyone know if the computer will detect a USB external floppy drive b4 the OS is installed?

I can't use a CDrom to install the drivers I've already tried only thing you can use is the damn useless floppy drive.

I didn't think it was possible, but I just found this page which seems to suggest otherwise: http://www.weethet.nl/english/hardwa...omusbstick.php

Good luck!

humm that's interresting.. they seem to be using USB jump drives instead of the floppy. If that's the case I can't see why the CD Rom option fails for me.

I'm really not trying to boot from it, but only install the raid drivers for my motherboard. For what ever reason it won't pull the drivers from a CD.

Have you called up Tech support for the company that made the drive? Maybe they can walk you through it.

Na, I just made a new CD to try again, I just remember when I first picked up my STAT drive I had to use a floppy because I couldn't get it from the CDrom drive. I'm going to try again now.

yea that's what it was.. when you hit F6 to install extra drivers during the setup windows only gives you the option to pull the drivers from drive A:

You can't tell it which drive to pull the drivers from, which is pretty lame. Anyone know a work around for this?

$ 10.00 for a floppy ... will save you time ... Must be a conspiracy between SATA hard drives and floppy manufacturers.

The the problem is the computer is down and not useable at the moment.. So my only other computer is a laptop which also doesn't have a floppy.. So I would have to buy a floppy for the laptop and the PC. Top that off with I have yet to find any wholsale computer place around here, so the $10 floppy cost $35.

I just can't belive windows won't let me determine where the damn drivers are at, and not give me only one option.

has nothing to do with checking the BIOS.. In reality, it really has nothing to do with booting either.. I'm just trying to add my mobo raid drivers and the only option windows allows is a damn useless floppy drive.
