One of my houses is in Fredensborg, where he will have his birthday dinner - the whole city is closed down, and when he visits, we are not alowed to enter or exit our own house.... If it was my only house, I would be PISSED.

LOL watching this pseudo "event" on tv was just weird and disturbing at the same time. I imagine it was like watching Fox News

Both major tv channels in Denmark cleared their entire schedule and broadcast live coverage of Bush's arrival in the airport. They started about one hour before he landed with possible landing scenarious like would the planes land on this or that runway, would he land 9:16 pm or 9:20 pm etc. etc.
And reporters everywhere reporting about nothing.

And then the big finale where we actually saw Bush for about 1 minute getting into a chopper and taking off to the Queen's castle where he is going to sleep.

Naturally there was a military guy in the studio telling about the kind of chopper George W was flying and how the weather affected the flight. And even a 3d animation of the route spiced up with footage filmed yesterday from a chopper flying the same route.

It was just hilarious. One of the anchors even kept making sarcastic remarks at a few occasions realizing this wasn't exactly breaking news

Denmark is the oldest kingdom, a little peaceful hobbit country, where we care more about the price of a Carlsberg beer than the price of oil, and if the welfare system should be sponsored by 48 -or 50 % taxes. Though there are exceptions, we like to "hygge", which can be translated to chill out with friends and family without starting too much trouble. It's more popular to watch song contests at TV, than propaganda news, even the producers knows that. What you don't do here, is taking away that "hygge" and start underestimate and bullshit with the people and the media. The politicians have no absolute power, and they can only win with arguments, not clichés.

I'm really sure most people are glad to get rid of Saddam, but lie to get there was a big big mistake. And when he also "seduced" the existing government here to alliance, it stole the innocent of our hobbits and turned proud into sceptisism. War is never popular, but there are also other factors like Kyoto. Enviroment is, and has always been, one important thing here, and people are willing to pay for it.
Further, we like leaders who hang out with the people and not hiding; when Clinton was here in 97, he went to a local Jazz club

The latest poll shows that only 10% of the population here support Bush and his world policy. But remember; lack of support does not necessary equal hate - it just tell that he is totally wrong, and continuing in wrong directions will lead to downfall sooner or later.

Well I had a discussion about this with a mate yesterday because of this visit.

Basically Bush as a person I don't think is that bad a guy, I would go so far as to say he is probably a nice guy.

BUT that is obviously irrelevant since his purpose is not to be a nice guy but to be the president. He has shown numerous times that he makes very fundamental decisions based on religion and not reason. And since he bases all his decisions on something I don't believe in nor find very rational (his religious belief) I think he is a terrible president and don't support him.

In 2003, yes. But you can't take out just 1 year like that, because there are other factors that can make it jump. If you look at the 7 years before, it has been reduced year by year. That tells me more.

So you think Denmark, which economic growth recovered strongly in the last 2 years are going to reduze the CO2 output, while keeping growth going? I bet the numbers for 2004 and 2005 are even higher than 2003. Just look at all of the new cars, houses, computers, mobilephones etc. and tell me if you really think that Denmark is using more or less energy than in 2003......

Denmark´s biggest problem is that coal is used to produce energy, so everytime the danish economy grows, then CO2 output also increases. There are only 2 options for Denmark - new energy forms or buy CO2 quotas. Only energy forms that realistic can cut C02 output by Kyoto deadline is Nuclear Energy, however due to brainwashing by socialists in 1970s and to this date, then people think that Nuclear Energy is more bad than coal (oh, and please do not think that windenergy can cover 100% of the energy HAHAHA!)

If Denmark is going to buy CO2 quotas, then please stop acting like you are all better than the rest of the world - you are just exporting your problem to 3rd world countries.

I agree on your comments on Denmark not being a good example when buying CO2 quotes from countries. Actually the option to buy/sell CO2 quotes is good for the environment globally since the industries can gain profit by filtering their chimneys etc - even though it can sound crazy.
The economic calculations for this are however quite complex to explain.

You are wrong when stating that the biggest problem is that coal is used to produce energy, and that the only alternative is wind energy. As a matter of fact many power plants in Denmark have converted to using gas from "Nordsøen".

The converting proces from coal to gas has been an on-going for years now. It is all described in the so-called "Energiplan 2000".

If you read above, I am not saying Denmark is a good example of Kyoto compared to some of the other countries who also put an effort into it, but I say people are willing to pay to reach the goals about better enviroment.
You just take out one thing, one year, and say that is representative for the willingness? That is misleading. Fact is that from 96 to 02 it has been reduced by over 30%. The goal is 21% decrease from 90 level. Another fact is also that Denmark is a small country, 60 times less population than USA, so talking percents is relative when you compare it to the big "contributers". As Zyber also say, it is complex, and when Denmark buying quotes from others after 2002, means that they actually have to spend the gain on other projects that on sight reduce SO2. Wind power will not cover 100% of the energy, but it will reduce it. Besides that, consumers, including myself, pay more to import power like water power from Norway and Sweden. Also people getting more money is not the same as they pollute more, because now they can afford to invest in products like cars that is better for the enviroment. Did you know that you can't hardly get 98 octan here anymore?
Investing money in better infrastructure is also long term policy, and really many people take the bus or their bike to jobs and schools. No wonder they shake their heads if someone with 3 cars in their carport say they can't afford it?

I'm not gonna argue that nuclear power is worse than coal when it comes to SO2. That policy is based on other things (just ask the people of Chernobyl).

Be glad that the danish goverment is supporting the coalition in Iraq, and that Bush recognize this by visiting Denmark. Also I never understood the reason for the fear of nuclear power... All people experience natural "background" radiation from including the sun, our bodies, and the earth. Typical background radiation level is about 300 millirem per year. The normal operation of a nuclear plant contributes less than 1 millirem per year for people living near the plant. However all people who own a television set are exposed to about 1 millirem per year from watching television. Why are the socialists not protesting against the wide spread of television sets in Denmark?????
