Yes they are short term in these cases above. That's why you take medications that act at long term like Paroxetine for 6 months to 1 year at least (or lots of others) to keep reducing your attacks and crisis. If you're trating panic syndrome with only the immediate-relief med (like Xanax) you're not being treated at all, just given a relief when you have a crisis, and your situation won't improve with time even if you don't get addicted to Xanax.
