Chicago Bans Hemp Candies
this seems a little fucked up to me.
Taste for Pot? Avoid Chicago From Associated Press CHICAGO ? The City Council passed an ordinance Wednesday banning the sale of marijuana-flavored lollipops, gumdrops and other treats, becoming the first major city to prohibit the confections that have appeared in convenience stores nationwide. The candies are legal because they are made with hemp oil, an ingredient used in health foods and some household products. The oil imparts marijuana's grassy taste but not the high. "I can't imagine the degree and the extent to which people will go to make a buck ? and to make a buck on kids, trying to get them to experiment with something that is going to be a lead-in to the use of marijuana," said Alderman Edward M. Burke, who sponsored the measure. Other cities are weighing the issue. A New York City councilwoman plans to hold hearings on the candies this summer, and an Atlanta suburb passed a resolution opposing them, which caused merchants there to remove the treats from their shelves. In Chicago, stores selling the candy will face fines up to $500 and possible suspension or revocation of their business licenses. The candies are sold under names such as Purple Haze and Rasta. Companies that manufacture the products say the candies are geared toward adults and that they advise retailers to sell to people 18 and older. "This is an adult product," said Tony Van Pelt, president of one manufacturer, Chronic Candy. "I don't intend and I don't want kids to eat it." There are 78 million pot smokers out there [in the United States] ? That's who I'm going after." http://www.latimes.com/news/nationwo...adlines-nation |

I don't see this as any different than when they started banning candy cigarettes.
There is a good point to banning shit like that if it's actually geared towards kids. It has been proven that cigarette companies did have marketing campaigns geared towards kids in order to keep their market growing. However I can't see any kid wanting to eat candy that tastes like pot...candy cigarettes were actually candy. maybe they should just regulate them to be sold to only adults 18+ and people can face stiff fines for selling them to minors. The problem you guys might not experience is in ghetto areas you have middle easterners and asians taking over convenience stores and in my own personal experience they don't care what they sell and to who other than liquor and actual cigarettes. They exploit any and every possible vice they can. In the D/FW area there were people selling crack kits already made up in convenience stores. Now the parts sold seperated were not "illegal." But they were sold in order to assemble a crack pipe for relatively cheap...just fucking pathetic what some people will do to make a $. |

you sir are my new favorite poster. i 100% agree, and the thing is there isnt even weed in the candies just hemp, how can they ban something that isnt illegal it doesnt even make sense. some people just have a stick in their ass and will do anything to supposedly "save the children". |
