AMC Theaters Offer Money Back Guarantee For "Cinderella Man"

http://www.cnn.com/2005/SHOWBIZ/Movi...eut/index.html

In a rare marketing ploy, the No. 2 U.S. movie theater chain, AMC Entertainment, is offering a money-back guarantee for boxing picture "Cinderella Man," hoping to boost interest in the struggling film amid a record box-office slump.

This is a great idea..........hardly anyone in good conscience would go to this movie and say they didn't like it, its that good. CM and Batman Begins are the best movies so far this year so if you haven't gone out to see CM, there's no excuse now as you can get your $$$ back in case you dislike it.

first off, Cinderella Man is a very high quality film........it just doesn't 'fit in' with the summer blockbuster mentality these days so its suffering........

secondly about this slump so many ppl. are talking about, if you minus off the late Feb. release of last year, "The Passion of the Christ", which did almost $400 Million domestically, its actually slightly ahead of last year. "The Passion" was an anomally for a February early spring release........usually thats one of the worst times of the year to release a picture regarding domestic box office. so the slump, although having some merit, as the actual number of weeks in a row with less $$$ compared to last year is accurate and growing, is also visited with hype.

true, people are buying more dvds and watching them at home instead of putting up with obnoxious viewers or aisles with no leg room, or $30 popcorn barrels...........but its not as bad as the hype leads one to think.

besides, movie ticket prices are way too high and the price point needs to be readjusted imo.

at some theaters, the popcorn and drinks are so over-priced and expensive, you almost have to offer them your newborn son to get them.

Do you secretly work for Hollywood? nice to seen a film fan on GFY. I agree with you on all three points and I highly recommend Cinderella Man. High quality production throughout. Paul Giamanti should grab an oscar nod for best supporting actor as should russel crowe for best actor.

Most theaters make all their money on concessions. Alot of films the movie ticket money goes directly to the production house.

absolutely 100% correct.

its why every kernel of popcorn is priced like a gold nugget.........to help pay for the $3 Million addition to Tom Cruise's house.

It is great movie. i agree about both actors getting nominated ( saw yesterday Paul Giamanti in SIDEWAYS ).

But it is not the right period of the year to release such a movie. December, before Academy nominations, would have been better... Summer season is kids seasons, so special effects and teen movies ....

Don't miss Cinderella Man ( lousy title also, even tough the character was surnamed it ), it will also show you real life ....

When I worked in telco, and dealt with businesses I talked to a theatre owner, and he said the above statement as well. I had been joking about the ticket and concession prices, and asked how many newborn son's he had in back. He chuckled, but said that they need all the concession money to stay in business because that's how the system's set up.

Very interesting.

Hollywood has made more shit movies in the past decade than anytime I can think of before with the rare exceptions ofcourse. Some have already been mentioned. More now than ever I know myself, and friends, when we go to movies will go to the midnight, or matinee as opposed to the rip off times. Plus we will eat a good meal out before hand. Saving us the extra $30 for food.

Nothing's more annoying than paying good money, and then seeing a shit movie.

and i swear they put something in the air with that popcorn butter smell to entice you to buy the stuff.........lol.........and we, like pavlovian dogs, run to the concessions and buy it up............i'm just as guilty as the rest of you on this........guilty as charged.........but i refuse to buy a $6 chocolate bar.......if i want chocolate, i'll smuggle that in
