xxxregistry banner ad on GFY

Since we are all (most of us) ranting and raving in agreement about how much .xxx sucks, I am a bit shocked to see a banner add on this site for xxxregistry.org telling me I can pre-register my .xxx domain name.

Do the people running this site feel comfortable making money from .xxx in this way?

If I came late to the party and already missed this discussion, sorry - please point me to the link, I'd love to read what was said.

I thought the same thing. But if I could buy them now, I don't believe in the .xxx, but I would get mine now.

Like I said, I don't believe in it.

'the link' should read 'the links' as it's been discussed a few times.

You're not alone in how you feel about it, that's for sure.

simple answer: segregation into a TLD which can be filtered by ISPs.

I would hope more people would think twice before supporting .xxx in ANY way. We need some sort of Solidarity to get some muscle here. I won't be buying any .xxx extensions or anything else that has to do with the domain.

I am curious to see why he sees .xxx as a bad thing, where there will never be a law forcing adult sites on .xxx domains and we DONT HAVE TO BUY THEM.

I'm not going to spend one penny on this .xxx shit and showing me that banner is a waste of advertising dollars for whoever paid for it. I hope more webmasters feel the same way.

Grouping is bad. But as i am trying to point out xxxregistery is just waisting time and maybe money.

There wont be a rush to buy .xxx domains because we will have no use for them. Just like any other shitty .cc or tld that isnt .com

are you serious?

"no rush" what you have to understand half the people who are saying that they will not rush to buy is because they hope to detour others from doing so.

watch when the extension drops their will be a few major people who own the top singleword names.

the internet is limitless and will not stop, do you not think eventually people will associate porn with a .xxx extension?

Of course people are going to be buying the big domains.

xxx.xxx porn.xxx and all the other type-in names.

But everyone said the exact same thing when the dot.in (.in) domains dropped and people rushed out to buy them. And .in still hasnt hit.

And i doubt that people will associate porn with .xxx

Do they use .org when they know that they are seraching for an organization.

Do they use .info when they are seraching for information.

Do they use .us when they search for a Us based company.

No.

The .xxx sponsored top-level domain will create a clearly identifiable area of the Internet that will empower families and help protect children and others from unwanted or inappropriate content. The existence of the sponsored TLD would facilitate meaningful, voluntary self-organization and self-regulation by responsible adult-entertainment website operators.
basically that means "pure chaos"

Pre-registrations are kind of legit scams. I thought this forum had enough revenues not to allow these kind of advertisements.

you have gone off topic, we are not talking about other extensions, we are talking about an "adult based" extension and why it is bad advertising for a place that supports it.

if you do not think the new extension should matter i think you need to find a new thread.

Agreed...

ONLY if we are forced to start using .xxx for anything adult related.

Anyone who volunteers to change all thier sites and everything to .xxx is an idiot.

Well my topic of discussion was that .xxx is harmless because we wont be forced to ever use it. It is just another extention.

An adult based extention would be bad if we have to match the type of site to the domain.

I.E
All us based sites need a .us domain, all information based sites need .info ....etc

Which will never happen. So .xxx is just another extention. Buy it if you will.

Yeah -- it's one thing to be forced onto .XXX -- which would make a "ghetto" of Adult, and expose us to being "cut-off" from the Legitimate Internet at any moment.

But, the truth is, it looks like .XXX is going to at least exist -- that doesn't bother me, so long as nobody is telling me I have to go live there.

I think we had to say "BAD, BAD, BAD .XXX" to defeat a compulsory evacuation of Adult to that TLD. But, remove that threat, and what's left but some form of opportunity, which you mau decide is attractive to you or not. BTW, there's another pre-registry available for anyone who doesn't want to patronize that ICM-sanctioned one -- www.dotxxxregistry.com -- fyi

And there are other things to consider. When the .XXX TLD launches, there's going to be global-scale marketing -- PR from the news coverage and whatever ICM may do. That will be free type-in eyeballs for anyone who's got a site there. When was the last time you saw an article about the Adult Biz in the Wall Street Journal --

Another point is that sites operating in .XXXLand will be (if there's any official support for it from the Federal government) in position to receive whatever concessions are granted to encourage Adult companies to go there. Those would be comparable to the tax breaks or cheaper construction permits that are offered by local government when they want to give an economic boost to certain parts of a city. We've been focused on the worst case scenario of .XXX as a place of exile for Adult, as a ghetto -- but it could become the Web's official Red Light District.

Exactly, people like Rui are sheep.

They quickly jump on the bandwagon of .xxx going to fuck us all over.

You have to lead a sad sorry life to be sacred by a domain extention.

I don't see XXX having much of an effect on my business model. My customers WANT porn. Sure, a few religious isps will block .XXX, and some will start offering a "family" filter. But if you think that most isps in countries other than China will block xxx, frankly you are clueless. Half the people that signup for the Internet look for porn first, you think they are going with an Isp that blocks that? Get Real. Yeah, xxx will make it easier for business to block porn, but the big ones do that already. We have firewall subscriptions to porn blocking filters in all my mainstream businesses blocking porn, so do most companies.

Obviously not too many gfyers are able to breed, or you would know that exposing children to porn is a real problem. Don't give me that "net-nanny" shit, IT DOESN"T WORK. I tried that crap on my own kids and a LOT of porn could still be downloaded.

The real loosers in xxx, if it ever becomes mandatory (otherwise its meaningless) are people that own big ticket domain names now. I don't own sex.com, so I guess I am not worried.

By the way, its hard to see how it could EVER become mandatory, and thus will remain meaningless. Since all the big name domain names are going to be snapped up by speculators on opening day, and not acquired by the people who own the .coms, it would provde impossible to later tell you you have to go to .xxx - since your name has long been taken.

As usual a bunch of people worrying about nothing.

But you will be told where to "Live".
Alot of dumb ass industry leaders in the world to decide this coupled with insane politicians. Its a beautiful thing for everyone while on the road with good intentions.

Fuck it though.
.xxx is inevitable. I will capitalise on it even though it is more evil than any of you folks around here have any idea of.

.xxx is not just a nail in the industry coffin.

This nail is going to really hurt.
