Most Idiotic Marketing Campaign Ever......The GM Employee Discount

General Motors is in the death spiral. This campaign is just plain stupid. They can't move product and they are desperate.

To paraphrase Dennis Miller "two of shit is still shit. If they really wanted to fuck you they would give you three".

this isn't the first time GM has done this. years ago, when they a large aerospace firm where my mother worked, they offered that discount to all employees of both their existing employees and the employees at my mother's company.

it didn't seem to hurt them any, and a lot of people were thrilled to get the cars at a discount.

GM styling sucks lately. I own a '96 Ram Air T/A and I was looking forward to the new GTO to replace my aging muscle car. But they made such a boring-ass design for the great engine and interior that I am having trouble deciding what my next ride should be.

Because they raised the price 20 % before taking the 15% off.

It is a good discount and you can get it on the Caddys (some are pretty sweet) You can also get it on the Hummer.

It isnt as dumb as you think. I bet ya its bring people into the showroom that might not noramally go. If nothing else, its getting people talking about them again... look... you even posted about it. They did something right.

It is not the discount amount.......it is the marketing. Why play the "employee discount" card?

My waitress at Chili's gets a 50% discount on nachos. I would like some of that action. An employee discount on an automobile is not going to influence people enough to switch their brand loyalty.

Perhaps, but why label it as such? They actually do themselves a disservice by letting the general public know about the "employee discount", which is bullshit anyway.

I would guess because people like to thinkk that they are getting the best possible deal, and who could get a better break than an employee?

My daughter almost took advantage of it, but she ended up going with Chrysler who is giving a flat $2,500 to everyone.

She ended up getting a $17,000 car for $11,500 after all the rebates.

I laughed at it too JJ, being that I've followed the auto industry at a consulting level previously to my current porn career, but amazingly it's been over-the-top successful.

They literally are shocked at how well its performing in terms of spiking sales versus the pervious six months of declining volume.

Just goes to prove that no matter how gullable we think the average consumer is in this country, they prove us wrong by lowering the bar again.

Wow! Thanks Mako!

"they prove us wrong by lowering the bar again"

That is classic and couldn't be more true.

Thanks for the insight.

They're giving employee discounts because they're running out of employees.

GM cutting 25,000 jobs
