:mad TELEdamnMARKETERS

I'm starting to hate telemarketers so much now.

Before they were so obvious and I could just hang up, but when Mastercard calls and pretends to make it sooooo important sounding just to then try to upsell you on sth.

And what the fawk is a COURTESY CALL? I'm eating dinner for gods sake!

END RANT - no need to reply, I feel better

I thought everybody has that unknown number block ..same as caller id but those weasels block their number and the service won't let them through until they press a number..since most use computer generated random numbers anyways

The automated one sucks. But if it a real person i sexually harass them. Like i start to talk in a deep voice and try to have phone sex with them. I seriously do it btw. I start with "what are you wearing right now".

Try it next time when they call, its fun.

LOL, I tried that once, but the fucking perv saved my number and called me later. Gave me some creepy story about wanting me to come with him for his cicumcision.

I was like wtf?

Doesn't work so good for ladies, lol.

MAYBE in the 3rd world or offshore ones, but the ones we have in town here run off bought lists, clients have some, and other lists are bought from the 3 major credit reporting agencies in the US. None of the numbers are random but all off of sorted pre qualified leads. Be it by area, income, or sex.

There is 3500 people calling out 16 hrs a day to US from my small town in Canada and everynumber called is called for a reason, and they have your full info and more then you think while talking to them.

It's half and half. Some telemarketers call EVERY number in a city.

Incorrect.

I woked in telco 8 years. Dealing with both resi and business. I also had customer's with call centers, as well as the companies I was with. Plus people came from telemarketing companies to work for the telco's and told us the stories.

Maybe small fries call from lists. But mid to large have a computer system set up with a number database (kinda like if you have good credit, socioeconomic status, etc, etc). Anyways, the computer dials out based on that list. As the number pool for their 'campaign' start running out, you get calls from the same company a lot more frequent til they talk to you. That's why one company will start calling you more and more over the course of a week, month, etc.

The pause is a dead give away. But if you are not on the do not call list, and you do not tell them to take you off, they keep calling. With the do not call list, keep in mind ANY business you gave your number to can call. This would be like a Sams club, place you bought something online, Radio Shack, car dealer, etc, etc. Because you gave them your number, they have the right to make those 'courtesy calls' (aka upsells).
