Centos upgrade: a lot of sites down ...

Automatic update from 3.4 to 3.5 caused the nanefile to crash. Nameservers not resolving.

To fix:

Important Notice Users updating to CentOS 3.5 from CentOS 3.4 may experience a problem with /etc/named.conf reverting to the default state. This is due to a problem with the new caching-nameserver rpm provided with CentOS 3.5. If the problem does occur, it can be easily corrected by running the following command in a root shell:

mv /etc/named.conf /etc/named.conf.CENTOS35UPDATE;mv /etc/named.conf.rpmsave /etc/named.conf;/scripts/restartsrv_named

Good thing the bug has nothing to do with cPanel and is a CentOS bug, the information was just gathered from the cPanel forum.

Sigh...

I plan on building a panel setup soon, but instead of being tied to specific services, it is cross platform and software independent, so you can use Bind, MaraDNS, DJBDNS, etc, for any service. Kinda nifty.

That would be a nice feature .... They have that for the choice of FTP servers, but I think that is all...
