Perhaps now. But 5 years abou it was the right salary. I know that for sure because I'm was working as a programmer my self and I met lots of other programmers there. So may be now the salaries there are bigger. However they are still can not be comparid with the Moscow ones if you taki into account that all salaries in Russia are tax-free (i.e. the taxes were paid out for you by you employer). However the salaries in Netherlands are not tax-free, because YOU (but not your employer) have to pay the taxes. And as far as I know the Dutch taxes are much bigger than taxes here in Russia which is 13% for income tax, or ONLY 6% joint tax for a small business. For instance I'm paying 6% from all my earnings because I'm working for myself.

bull fucking shit :disgust
why are you tweaking facts just to make Russia look better? admin it - most of the people here are FUCKING POOR that's fact

I love russia and especially Moscow - great city, but why the fuck lie? you only make other people think that russians are idiots and can't face reality or that russians are blind and will lie just to make their country sound better

face it - most of the people here are POOR , VERY POOR

situation is getting better every year though (esp. Moscow as always) - that's fact that I agree with.

No lie at all. I was working as a programmer and have a lot of friends who are still earning with coding. No one of them has a salary less than $2500 a month. For example, my the salary brother (he is a programmer in some IBM-related company) is $4,5K EURO a month. That's is a fact but not a lie. May be you don't have any friend among programmers, or those "programmers" you know are not the real one (have no appropriate degree or so...) As about lots of poor people... Did you were in the USA? In the NY for instance?.. Just walk a few quarters away from Manhattan and look around... And what's about the US majority who lives outside of the big cities (I mean one-storied America) say in Kansas? Do you know how "rich" they are? :disgust

There are so many incorrect statements in this thread, it's hilarious.

But in the Netherlands you have to pay a rather big taxes (more than 30% as far as I remember) from your salary.

Russia
GNI per capita: 2610 USD

The Netherlands
GNI per capita: 26230 USD

Russia's economy is growing but it has a long way to go to catch up to the West.

This turned into much more than your usual 'nice car' thread lol

Interesting stuff

Read my post above this page. Once again: THERE IS NO OFFICIAL STATISTICS in Russia. Almost all employers here are hiding from taxes, so the "official" numbers you see are just fake.

For example, it's ok here if I hire you and tell you something like that: "your official salary will be $100 a month, but I will pay you $1500 on hands". So what the official statistics will say in such a case???

GNI/GDP data are used to determine the size of an economy and calculate growth. Fact is, Russia is still poor compared to the West.

I know what GNI/GDP is. But once again, all the official numbers are fake. The $7 form each $10 earned by Russian governmemt from selling gas and oil is going to offshore bank accounts. The ppl. here is getting "black" salary etc. I don't want to say it's good. But it's really affects to any statistic info you may see. No one is able to calculate even the rough amount of money that only Moscow ppl have "on hands"...

Netmax 06-20-2005 06:15 AM

:)

Salary in west countries is really bigger, than in Russia. But Russia traditionally has free educational and medical services for every citizen of the contry. What about EU/USA?

I live more than 1000 km away from Moscow in a small town, but I don't see 70% of poor people, but average salary is about $250 here.

Basic_man 06-20-2005 06:17 AM

This thread is going nowhere..

Rui 06-20-2005 06:28 AM

its quite clear that Moscow like all places on the world has its fair share of wealthy countrys but saying that Russia as a whole ain't a poor country...lets get real eh
