How can I buy someone a domain if I don't know their name?
So, I want to buy a domain to give away in a contest. I wish to register the domain ahead of time in order to set up something on it, but of course I don't know who will win so I can't register the domain in their name.
Regulations prohibit transferring a domain that's less than 60 days old, so I can't just put it in my name and then change the registration info; How can I do this? |

Guess you'd have to wait for 60 days to have your contest.

Any other ideas? :-/ I'm actually planning to give away a working website, but I don't have any free domains I want to use for it. I need to register a new one.

just create a new account at any registrar... and give the winner the user/pass and they can change all the details / personal info. once they win.

Most registrars will let you change the account/whois info, or even transfer the name between accounts at that same registrar. The 60-day transfer prohibition is an ICANN rule relating only to transfers between registrars, and is intended to reduce certain types of fraud, particularly non-payment (or reversed-payment) to the initial registrar.
