You'd be surprised. They'll do an autopsy I'd imagine, and I'd be willing to bet the stress from the ride (or any ride at any random point thereafter) triggered something in his heart that it couldn't deal with due to being defective. The AMA estimates that as many as 5M people in the United States have defective valves, genetically inferior hearts, etc, and have no idea because it's not something that can be easily caught. Even EKG readouts don't pick them up often, and how many of us have ever even had one performed?

Either way it sucks for the family, and it sucks for Disney too.

Damn, hopefully this won't lead to calls to soften the ride up or alter it. It's pretty cool actually, and it's not hardcore at all.

Disney is redesigning Space Mountain out here in Anaheim, supposed to open next year and feature an indoor, dark, loop.

Actually I think it will be opening soon. Castmembers have already been riding it, they will probably be doing some soft openings soon. The date July 17th sticks out in my head as a possible open date for the new ride. Many people I've talked to "in the know" say it has no loops.

Regards,

Mike

Why would any parents put their 4 year old on a ride like that

""Mission: Space," a ride so intense that it has motion sickness bags and several riders have been treated for chest pain."

I was just on that ride last week.

I've never been on a ride that tells you atleast 5 times to back out of you cannot take it. It also explains the warnings of the ride, and even the people that run the goddamn thing tell you "this is your last chance to back out."

The parents are the ones to blame, allowing their kid, after so much warning, to go on a ride that realistically pulls somewhere around 2-5G's. I don't have motion sickness, but after that ride I was weezy as hell.

They also tell you not to look side to side or close your eyes...I did that, and almost puked myself. I bet that the idiot both closed his eyes, looked at his mom and killed himself.

It's the parent's fault.

Same here. Fucked with everyone's head who I was with. Definately not a ride to hit at the end of the day when you're feeling crappy and hungry.

I almost died at the Armegedon ride at Disneyland Paris - and I am not joking. It was only because at the last minute I thought there was something odd about where they had placed me to stand that I moved right before a huge fireball thing came out exactly where they had stood me.

Only four years old? That's very sad...They should raise the age requirement to like 6-7 years old. 4 is too young for a ride like that.

There isn't an AGE requirement. There is a HEIGHT requirement.

That's what i was thinking too..
exactly...both parties are guilty.. still, management played a big part here(faulty shit)Failure to exercise the degree of care considered reasonable under the circumstances, resulting in an unintended injury ... too bad these things happen..

I'm so sad to hear this story :-(

I have a 5 month old son, if I keep reading stuff like this, I will never let him out of the house!

The parent is to blame....so sad for her! Imagine her thinking over and over, I should have never let him ride that ride! One thing, is she did ride it with him.

I feel for everyone involved!
