Who will force porn onto .XXX, ICANN or Visa/MC?

My guess is the card issuers.

That way sponsors can be compelled to only accept traffic from other .XXX domains by the payment processors.

ICANN won't force anything, the US government may try, but I doubt they would succeed, VISA / Mastercard may force paysites to move to .xxx ( with a little inspiration from the US government perhaps ) indeed

anyway, as most people agreeded this idea sucks, I hope there are really some more powerful players debating on how to fight it assuming there's still even a small chance to opppose it

Well since visa/mastercard already got the dream bankruptcy reform passed. I do not see them using us as a chip just yet for future negotiations, that is until they need something else passed.

Since Visa has already split Adult and Mainstream online transactions apart it will be very easy for them to segregate Adult even further. You can kiss recurring billing in it's current form good bye. Members will need to click a link in an e-mail agreeing to the new charge or it won't go through. If this doesn't happen by the end of the year I'll be suprised.

Visa owes the US Gov for those bankruptcy reforms and I wouldn't be suprised to see the Gov use Visa as a :weapon" in their "battle" against online porn.

Ultimately the problems posed by 2257 and .xxx are going to pale in comparison to what Visa is going to do.

just my

People have been saying for years that it wouldn't happen because Companies like AOL used recurring billing too. Not so long ago Visa made a distinction between Adult and Mainstream online transactions. This opened the door for them to change how recurring works for Adult without affecting big mainstream clients like AOL.

As I was typing my response I googled mainstream+adult+billing+visa and came across this link.

kinda puts things into perspective.
