I have several, one fried and I replaced the drive. Avoid the Porsche models they cook easily.

i never buy prepackaged external hd's...i usually build them myself

just got this case though, it is sweet, it has glowing led lights underneath so it looks like it is floating

You can get one from maxtor with both usb and firewire connections.
I have the maxtor personal storage 250GB, never had a problem.

I've got a porshe one, fucking thing started making noises like a phone ringing and doesnt work, no info about it anywhere, and the shop said I broke it.. the cunts.

well its just temp space when doing vids, the DV takes a shitload of mem and Im burning them on dvd anyhow... its a porsche one its small makes no weird sounds and with the 1,5 yr warrenty im covered.

Needed to be small the WD etc ones are cool but too big to put in our datasafe...

Very fast and very reliable.

i have the same which i do three times a week backups to, and uts fine so far (3 montsh old)
