Will this server suffice?
The server will be running multiple tgps with hits totaling about 150k a day. All will be using the same TGProtator script. Will the 10Mbps port bottleneck it too much? OS will be linux.
Base System Configuration: ? AMD 3000+ Barton ? 80GB IDE Hard Drive ? 1024MB RAM ? 10Mbps Unmetered Tier 1 BW ? IP Addresses: 8 (5 usable) ? Private VLAN ? Number Of Servers: 1 ? Basic Resource Monitoring ? FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Linux, Windows* ? 100% Self Managed and Dedicated Monthly Fee Options: ? $199.00 (Setup Fee of $99.00) ? $209.00 (Setup Fee of $49.00) ? $219.00 (Setup Fee of $0) |

Or would this lower end server with a bigger pipe be a better choice?
- 2.4GHz Celeron - 80GB Drive - 1024MB RAM - 20Mbps Unmetered Bandwidth - Private VLAN - Red Hat, Windows - Orbit? Customer Portal - $199 Monthly / $99 Setup - $209 Monthly / $49 Setup - $219 Monthly / $0 Setup |

If it were my choice, I'd pick the bigger pipe so that you know you can handle the traffic.
Edit: Don't forget to take into consideration the type of TGP's you be running. Text vs. thumb will make a difference. |

If you've got a good host, they should be able to help you out with this.
I'd start with the higher-end box. Keep a close eye on it your first month. Watch ram, swap usage, bandwidth consumption vs. CPU usage, etc. If any of these are consistantly saturated throughout the month, ask your host to switch you to a larger box. Also, if you're running a few different TGP's on a single box, you may want to ensure that your host has quality bandwidth. Hope this helps

I dont think you'll be able to fit 150k hits into a 10mbps link especially one that is capped.
Typically 100k = 10mbps so you'd need roughly 15mbps Hit me up on ICQ: 4930562 i might be able to help you

both machines could handle it. funny thing you basically described my machine at home with the big one. just built it. If you want a good deal i can do that server with 10 megs for 200 bucks but no cap and overage at 45 bucks a meg. 100 set up. My tier 1 is not just level3 or vberio or golabal crossing or AOL or UUNet or Teleglobe, but all of them and more 12 peers in all 2 direct to europe.

I like the first option better. Besides, LT is a solid company, but lately, SM has been getting a lot worse.

Take the 10 Mbps... if you need more, it is easier to upgrade than downgrade.
