Its pretty obvious that GFY'ers have good taste, in general, to be mentioning Led Zepplin so much here.
Is there any doubt they are one of the greatest rock and roll bands of all time? NO. The greats are Led Zepplin, the awesome Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Beatles. They are dubbed "Supergroups" for a reason. Personally, from Zep, I love Black Dog and Stairway like many GFY'ers, but I also love more obscure titles, like the fabulous "No Quarter", or "Kashmir", and too many others to sit here and mention. :thumbsup |

Let's not forget Cream - Swablar, Crossroads, Politician, White Room
|
Simple Man by Lynrd Skynrd is one of the greats.

I believe this could very well be the dumbest statement ever made on GFY. |
I don't like queen too much but Bohemian Rhapsody is very cool, then Pink Floyd - wish you were here and Learning To Fly and many others, lately I often play Uriah Heep - Easy Livin', but I think that there's no way to select ONE song, there could be a top 20 BANDS selection instead :)

Zeppelin is by far the best rock band ever, not even a question. The Clash? Fuck the Casbah.

it's ok if you like them. millions of people like that crappy band too. just remember, millions of people also listen to britteny spears. |

you obviously haven't listented to much clash. |

I used to drive my neighbors nuts with that song when I first moved to my own apartment in 1971. I would have my stereo cranked up, and played it over and over and over and over and over and over and over . . . well, you get the idea. |

That's punk "music", not rock. Punk was founded on the belief that you don't even need to know how to play an instrument to be in a band. Bah, no thanks. :disgust |

There's a difference idiot and obviously you're to young to realize this. Brittany Spears is heavily marketed, Zeppelin wasnt. Zeppelin shyed away from publicity and they became what they were through their talent, Brittany through her looks and marketing. In 30 years people won't know who Brittany Spears was, nor the Clash. They both suck, got it? |

BEST ROCK SONG: Hotel California :2 cents: |

No shit. That Flock of Seagulls crap is all but forgotten. |

you need to go listen to the clash, and understand their impact on music. you are obviously clueless. |

hahahaha . . . you make all those valid comments, then end up with a ballad by the Eagles? |
Quote:
Their impact on music? Okay, what artist has said that the Clash was who they got their motivation from? |
Quote:
Sid Vicious was quoted as saying he liked punk because you don't need to know how to play an instrument to be in a punk band. They were all about stripping it down & just being noisy, not talented. Some people like that style, to me it ain't shit. The Clash had some decent radio songs but to compare them in any way to Led Zeppelin, who were musical geniuses, is pure insanity. Every single member of Zeppelin was amazing - they covered every style of music and did it all well. They revolutionized rock music and redefined the genre forever. The Clash had a couple of "ok" songs - they shrink to a inconspicuous speck under the towering shadow of Led Zeppelin. |

I'm clueless and yet you think the clash has more talent than zeppelin :1orglaugh Is your name your drug of choice? |
Quote:
Zep in the 70's is much like NWA in the 80's in that respect. Both groups received virtually no radio play but sold millions of albums anyway. "[Zeppelin] rarely gave interviews, since the music press detested the band. Consequently, the only connection the audience had with the band was through the records and the concerts." - http://www.vh1.com/artists/az/led_zeppelin/bio.jhtml |

But if you must... Dazed and Confused - Zeppelin or Master of Puppets - Metallica |

sidney was an idiot. the only reason the pistols worked with him on bass was because jones and cook had great checmistry together. Quote:
it's amazing how defensive people get when you talk negatively about led zepplin. it's like you asll knwo they suck, but are afraid to admint it. :1orglaugh |

no my sig is my drug of choice. ;] |
I think the top 2 songs played on rock radio are:
Zep - Stairway to Heaven Eagles - Hotel California I think Zep had the lead for years but the Eagles song has now taken #1 spot as the most played. Each song is kinda mellow (minus the latter parts of Stairway to Heaven). Both good songs but wouldn't be near my top choices. |

well, to be honest, i asked to see what other people thought, not to hear your vagina's bleed about my pick. |
As much as I must disagree with smack regarding the mighty Led Zeppelin, I will say that the Clash is one of the greatest bands I've ever seen live.
"Clampdown, Joe! Fucking Clampdown!" |

and i'm certianly not denying the importance or influence of led zepplin. i just don't think their music is good. ;] |
Has anyone mentioned freebird by Skynyrd?
= huge too. The clash, athough good in their niche and have some great songs, are nowhere close to being in the same strata as Led Zep. That's just the way it is. Poll any cross-section of 50 million people from N American, UK, Aussies etc and the answer as well as the song will always remain the same. :D |

Stairway to Heaven came out in 1971 and you're making references to a radio stations decision on airplay 25 years after that. Whats your point? |

I like a bit of zep and a bit of the clash. Funny how punk gets a bad rap from classic rockers. In particular the clash. Download White Riot and 1977. Double A-side from 1977. Killer. The whole point of punk was that ideas and energy were more important than how well you can play your instrument.
My current top 5 "classic" rock: 1) Soon - My Bloody Valentine 2) Marquee Moon - Television 3) Judy Is A Punk - The Ramones 4) Transmission - Joy Division 5) Gimme Shelter - The Rolling Stones 6) Tomorrow Never Knows - The Beatles 7) Snowblind - Black Sabbath 8) Fools Gold - The Stone Roses 9) I Wanna Be Your Dog - Iggy & The Stooges 10) Golden Years - David Bowie Great stuff ;) |
