Sam Cooke
has the voice of an angel. I am still on my current soul music kick and rediscovering some fantastic singers. Man, his voices cuts straight through the crappiest of my moods.

Sarah..
I presume you're watching BBC2 on a Sat night then
I'm looking fowards to next Sats programme about Motown.. I was brought up on Motown, Stax, Atlantic and all the original stuff.. My collection of around 7000 records, goes back to Ben E King and Spanish Harlem, Ray Charles and Hit the road Jack and even more Being my age, almost 57, I've had the pleasure of seeing many of the great soul stars in concert over the years. Through my dj'ing in London clubs and doing a little for the old Radio London from the mid 70's to early 80's, I made great friendships with Edwin Starr, David Ruffin of the Temptations and Harry Ray of the Moments three guys who've departed the world now but left great legacies, amongst many others. So this series may bring the odd tear or two to this old mans eyes .... |

yup, i watched last Saturday and plan on watching this week..crappy time for it to be on though because I know I will miss them if I go out. I wish they repeated them later in the week on bbc4 or something.
I got thrown into this kick by seeing Hall and Oates last week and they did a lot of old Philly Soul tunes. |

Vendot
I first saw the Temps at Talk of The Town in Jan 1970. That week of shows was released as "Live at Talk of The Town."
I met David Ruffin in the mid 70's when he came to the club, Gullivers, that I was dj'ing at and through this he did an interview on the Robbie Vincent Saurday morning show on Radio London. In 1990, I was in NY and saw a club called Sweetwaters in the paper, had Dennis Edwards and Eddie Kendricks appearing that night... I was the only white guy there and with an Hispanic girl, but what a night that was.... I even have the Temps Dvd " The True Story" and now I'll have to watch it again tonight.... Memories... |
