For a First time Hand Gun owner what should I get?

I want something with knockdown power.

As well as easy to conceal. Yes I will be getting my CCW

I was looking at a 92F..

you can use any type of gun to kill yourself but I would suggest getting a 9mm. .22 bullets wont kill you.

If money is not an option, then check out the .40 or 9mm Glock

I have a CCW permit and carry a Kel-Tek .40

Cheers!

As my namesake said, get a 9MM. Not a huge fan of the glock 'safety', but good hardware. If cash isn't an option, look at the SIG P series, and the H&K USP series. If you want 'more' stopping power, look at the 1911 models. The best advice I can give is, go to the range, bring some cash, rent a bunch of handguns. See what is comfortable for you, what is easy to shoot. Focus on the front sights, and dump a few hundred rounds through what you like.

.45's tend to be a big large for CCW, there are smaller(ish) models, but they tend to hurt to shoot. Also, while they're small, stay the fuck away from the Makarov 9MM's, as they fucking HURT to shoot.

(I'm a personal fan of the springfield arms 9mm's and SIG's.)

If this were home defense, get a shotgun. And a safe. Well, get a safe either way. Even if you don't have kids, kids visit.

Jeeze... another person with a hand gun.

Get a 12 gauge shot gun (short barrel, tactical grips) and keep it under your bed for home protection. Have your first 2 shots buckshot so you don't miss your target and the rest slugs to finish the job. That's all anyone needs. To carry a gun on the streets is just asking for trouble.

Bottom line is, nobody makes a handgun like Glock. It not just BS. Police departments use them because the last thing you need is a handgun jamming when you actually need it.

if you want one that small look at the 27
if you're looking for cheap avoid .45, a day at the range can be quite expensive

best be is to go down to a gun store/range and shoot off some rounds in each.

I figure it costs about 1.00 per bullet.

I fired my girlfriends grandpa's guns he had a .357/.44 and a .50 grizzly gun.

Only thing I didn't shoot was the .50 Said It would hurt me because I was inexperienced

Her Grandpa makes his own bullets.. So ammo wouldn't be the problem.

I went to the range and shot
$100.00 and all I did was rent a .22 Rugar and buy ammo and targets it was a lot of fun.. but yeah.. I hear a .50 cal can be like .87 cents per bullet or so

Glocks are too easy to shoot accidentally.. They're great for cops who need precision firepower in an instant... but the average person can easily get into trouble with that trigger.. it's just too easy to pull

The guy who owns the gun range I shoot at knows 3 people who have shot themselves with glocks. One was a cop who shot his own ball off, one was a dude who works at the shop and accidentally got his gun caught when moving boxes and it fired accidentally

The best advice I can give you is to think safety first. The H&K USP compact series has a lot of safety features and the gun is easy to disassemble and clean. I'd stay away from Berettas (they shoot nice but suck to disassemble)

Try shooting a few guns and seeing what caliber you're most comfortable with. Any size bullet fired with precision is gonna have plenty of stopping power

Also, make sure to put at least 500-600 rounds through your gun before you get a CCW. You want to make sure that it is solid and reliable and doesn't jam up on you

I like shooting guns and I've been wanting to buy a handgun for quite some time but I have to say I find it disturbing how many people claim they don't leave home without one and the people that carry them everywhere.

a .357 revolver for rock solid performance and good carry, and good knockdown...

however, the 2 of my favorites are my sig229 40S&W and my .45 paraordnance p14-45...

...

PS: my wife had a 92F and she loved it...but not really a great carry weapon imo...and knockdown on a 9mm is 'ehh'

Is that the new caliber one my salesman was showing off? To tell you the truth I went in to buy the 9mm - just bought the 23 because it was the same size with a bit extra punch. I love it - shoots like a dream and the internal laser is sweet.

Listen to what people are saying about lack of a safety though - something like 22 DC cops have shot themselves so far. Because you can rack it so easily though I solved that by not carrying one in the chamber - most of the time.

keep in mind, as soon as you add that gun to your household you increase the odds of yourself or a family member being shot by 80%

i have nothing against your family, so if/when that happens i hope its you who takes that round

I was looking at the 23.. What about the 30?
I have the Glock 30 with the Laser max. I carry Federal Hydroshocks in it, which open to full diamater within 3 inches.

You cannot beat the .45 caliber for stopping power. The 30 is a subcompact, and I carry it with zero problems.

Only thing is get the pearce grips for your clips to extend the pinky fingers grip.

Listen to what people are saying about lack of a safety though - something like 22 DC cops have shot themselves so far. Because you can rack it so easily though I solved that by not carrying one in the chamber - most of the time.

Buy a holster that is fingerless. Having a weapon without one in the chamber makes no sense.
