Domain Buyers what do you think of internet2 ? (100x faster connection)

    Internet2 is 100 times faster??

    http://www.usatoday.com/money/indust...nternet2_x.htm

    http://www.internet2.org/

Seems to me it will only be a matter of time before the private sector starts creating their own network based on the technology the universities are using... (isn't that how internet 1 started ?)

With connections 100x faster you could rent online and stream (watch) any movie ever made, would end blockbuster type stores. The uses are endless.

Question: Do you think it would be a good idea to snag some names name, internet2_______.com or a waste of money? There seens to have a lot of good ones still available.

    dialup
    dsl
    cable
    broadband
    internet2 ???

    What do you think ?

"Will Internet2 ever be open to the public?

Probably not. But the technologies developed in Internet2 will gradually be transferred to the original Internet, making it faster and more stable."

        thus....

        waste of money.

And the mouse will never be something that people would need/use. And there will never be the need for more then 7 computers in the world....

Either way i could care less, but if you think that it is not possible because some IT guy said " probably not" I think you are being a little too closed minded.

sure is the need there now? i'd agree and say it's not

does that mean it's going to die? hell no.

from a marketing standpoint, one company is going to say they are 4 bazillion times faster than the other, so the other will have to catch up, and to quote Ice Cube "once again it's on"

they pull the same shit with DSL vs Cable. "OUR download is 5x's faster!!" and people think, holy shit, that's what i need. When we all know they will never use it and that upload speed is the true commodity.

Thats not true, what they claim can be proved. Marketing is saying **up to x timesfaster** just like companies here say " make 200 a singup" and we know no one hits that level lol.

There is a need for this now. Not for surfing the net, whats a fraction of second on page loads, dont even notice it. But next time you are downloading something that takes several minutes think about how there is no need for this. For movies alone, i read something about the founder of netflix, he was waiting for the day that technology advanced and people had a fast enough conection to download a movie in seconds and stream it and watch it on their hdtv, where as with connections right now this would take hours and not pratical. If you think this is where the internet speeds stop you are crazy.

                  huh?

you're comparisons make no sense. Did you even read the article you posted a link to? Internet 2 is a private network used for research only. In order to become a member and be able to use it, you must contribute $$$$ and research to the continued development of the network.

This isn't a case of someone not seeing the potential of the mouse or the keyboard here.... it's quite simply, a private network that will likely never be seen by the general public. However..... the technologies will ultimately migrate to the current Internet, making it better and faster....

I have no doubt that we will see the technology someday.... but I seriously doubt you will ever actually see the Internet 2 network.

You are wrapped up in a pipe dream, hoping to score on some domain name for something that is pointlesss.

hmmm ok ? if you say so. I don't own internet2.com FYI. just asking a question if the domain buyers thought it would be good to buy some decent internet2 names now before they are gone. we all know idiots register every name under the sun, frees3xcamz.net etc.. making it hard as hell to find a name that makes sense anymore.

Since we all agree that the technology they are developing will be used in the private sector, who is to say that the private sector will not use the name as well ? It's the most logical thing to happen. btw the orginal internet we use today was for the govt and colleges only, long before the public got access to it.

Guess we will have to bump this one in a few years

So how many did you register
