wont happen..you wont get anywhere near its value in cash..
too many variables even for a new owner..better to just hire a manager and outsource your posting to iwebmasters.. |
Last time I talked to the type of people who would be serious buyers you were lookign at one year of gross as long as your expenses weren't outlandish, and this was 2 years ago or so if I remember right. Putting someone who produces their own content at 10-11 months due to expenses.. However he does have a great deal of equity in the content as it is unique.. I would venture a guess of 15-18 months of net revenue.
Then you have to consider the fact that the head of the company isn't there any more - It would be like Bill Gates selling Microsoft and not having any further involvement, you better have someone awfully damn relentless to take that place with more business savvy than the prior owner. Should be interesting, GL with everything Steve.... There are companies out there that will buy w/o a doubt but I don't think you'll like the figures you see whne it comes down to the nitty gritty. |
Have you spoken with Gary Kremen about this yet? :)

I commend Steve for being honest. His stuff has been front-running for years.
If you retire, are you going to move to Sun City? |

Steve,
You have built up a great "brand" with lightspeed :) I am sure you will get some nice offers. |

Go public with the compagny ... manage it for 2-3 years and slowly sell your shares.
|
Steve, I wonder if you only plan on selling the entire lightspeed program as a whole, or would sell off some of your sites individually as well, if the offer was right.
|
evan is always on top of shit... i wish i had 1/8th of his skillz

sex.com is a much better name and it went for 9mil many moons ago... albeit a notional sale to another of cohen's entities... |
Well first of all if Steve did sell I doubt anyone would hear about it for quite some time. Part of the deal would probably be him staying on for a year to make sure the ship is on the right path, then one day he would just come out and say.
"Hey I sold Lightspeed a year ago and everything has been operating fine and dandy under the new ownership/management so see ya later". That way the affiliates that make a large part of the traffic equation would not be running for the hills as soon as Steve said he is leaving Lightspeed and some new company is coming in. :) Steve runs an incredible company but I think it could still operate and be profitable without him. He's got a good team there and a solid base of traffic from type-ins, SE and affiliates... Fuck I bet even without the affiliates the traffic base is so large you would still make a killing. Anyways just rambling on here, good luck with the sale Steve. If I could afford it I would buy you out :) DH |
I'm quite sure Steve isn't really interested in sell LSC...lol
|
It's going to be interesting to see this happen more often in the next 10 years. The internet is still so young. There will come a time when many established program owners want out... to retire. Will most pass it onto their kids, hire management to run it, or sell.

hahaha... same here... always wanted to just drive around in one :thumbsup ... thought i was the only one.. |
The successful adult webmasters are all notoriously tight wad bargain hunters. I haven't met one yet that will pay premium prices, and most won't even pay wholesale. Everyone wants a steal.
You're much better off doing a reverse IPO Steve and toss it into a publicly traded shell and then pump and dump the stock for a couple years. You'll make a shit load more that way. |
good deal :)

5 million is shit? 5 million at 6% return (which is a no brainer) is 300k per year. I'll take that all day long. |

ack, does this mean we will need to change link codes again? :(
otherwise, good luck. :) |
What are you guys talking about numbers when you don't know his numbers. He could have a profit of 500k a year or 3 mill a year. It is all about the profit - or the ability to reduce costs by integrating his product into an already existing company.

I think Steve is one of the smartest guys here. He hears the footsteps of the DOJ in the distance and he know that a huge program like his is going to be a target. If these guys do come sweeping down in the next year or two he would not get shit for his company. Right now he still has a chance. I wish I were in his position. :thumbsup
