Program Owners: Would having an MBA give you a much greater edge in the adult biz?
What about ad agency experience? Anyone benefiting from big ad agency experience from the likes of Mccann or Y&R? Or have you found that none of that stuff really washes in this particular field?
Those at the top, how do you feel? |

It may help a little, but I doubt having MBA will give anyone any significant advantage...

IMO, the only reason this business is attractive is because you don't need a MBA to get into it, or be successful. If you do have a MBA, go start a REAL business.

No matter what you do, having more education and such than your competitors is always good.

As a program owner who doesn't have one I wish I had, not so much these days but over the last 10 years in business it would have minimized some of the hard learning.
![]() I have never placed much credence in the education system, but older as I am now, and with a daughter of my own I encourage anyone younger to get as much education as you can. ![]() |

i have an MBA.
it didn't specifically help much with my mainstream career, doesn't specifically help much now... EXCEPT that it has helped me think in different ways, much more logically and stragetically, throughout my life - so while it's impossible to quantify, maybe it does help me in less-obvious ways. |

MBA would help. Once you start grossing a couple mil per year things get complicated, it would be nice to know the right process to A. manage your money and B. set up the biz so responsibility could safely be delegated.
I suspect a lot of program owners are like myself and fear for good reason that things just don't get done like you need them to without constantly putting the spurs to everyone. IBM doesn't have to do this lol... there's a definite science to running a productive office.

An MBA is usually more valuable in the field of networking than the actual business knowledge that you pick up during the 2 years. Depending on the school you will end up knowing another 50-150 workaholic brainiacs from all around the world with the most diverse backgrounds and from all sorts of industries. Talk about connections.
Pays off for some after a decade or so, they get phonecalls when a VP or CEO position needs to be staffed somewhere. |

![]() Kidding aside, I'm thinking white colllar and being biz savvy to create in-roads with mainstream offshoots that create non traditional revenue opportunities for you. One example out of many, I'm surprised no large sponsor has thought about starting their own branded Platinum Credit Card (think about the adult consumer base, benefits-rewards 'all the porn you can eat' programs for card usage, etc etc.) ![]() |
