how do you keep a laptop on straight for some 10 hours? like a way to connect it to an electrical outlet and have it not use up the battery?

have you tried calling the company that made it, Dell? their support might tell you what to do...

try looking in the BIOS, there might be something on power saver functions.

It can be a combination of Bios and power configs. Call their support. I am too drunk to tell you how to fix it.
