Abstinense is the only way to fully 100% prevent STDs and Pregancies. End of discussion. Thats a fact.

My only opnion in this thread and the one that i still stand buy is that we need to teach both.

she'll probably end up "tripping" and killing the baby

hydro 05-01-2005 01:32 PM

what sucks even more is that in 16 years that kid is probably going to kill somebody and steal their car then the tax payers will have to pay for his jailtime

No shit. I never said you were wrong. Read my replies instead of ignoring them. I said you were right, but we don't live in an utopian society. Teenagers will have sex, even if don't like it. Welcome to 2005.

Not all teenagers are "currupt"

The thing is teaching only abstiense wont work.
But teaching birth control alone gives kids the impression that its okay only if we do it this way
Im no expert but we need to find a way to teach both to make sure its more effective.

Do arranged marriages tell you anything? 13-14-15 year old girls beeing married and starting families earlier in the century when people we're even more religious.

Wake the fuck up.

"its going to happen no matter what" makes it ok? it happened 150 years ago so its ok? lets bring back slavery if thats the case... starting with you
didnt "arranged marriages" happen between 13-15 year old girls and 25-30 year old men? thats ok too? give me a break. i cant believe you see no problem with 13 year olds having sex. you're probably have no problem looking at 13 year old "art" aswell. you need to wake the fuck up.

Have you seen the crap they try to pass off as information about drugs and alcohol? It's in the same realm as abstinance teachings. They try to scare the shit out of kids with lies, misinformation and misrepresentations. No fucking wonder no kid believes anything adults tell them and make shitty decisions. They can't possibly make an informed decision after these processes.

what would you recommend then? pass out free samples to all the kids so they can experience it themselves? id rather have them taught drinking and doing coke can kill you then its a wonder ride that can be enjoyed by all.

Absolutely not. Where would you possibly get an idea of such an extreme? Inform kids with honest information. Tell them about the negative consequences, tell them about the positives. You can give information to them in an unbiased manner. Scare tactics don't work. They never have. Kid's (generally) are not dumb. They can see through bullshit, maybe not at first, but they will. They will see that they were lied to. They will see that weed will not kill them or even ruin their lives. If you'd rather raise your kids lying to them in order to scare them to death to keep them in line then I feel bad for your kids.

Several of you seem to be blaming the parents, but I noticed that the article states:

"Florida's department of children and families intervened and took the matter to court, arguing the teenager, who is under the care of the state..."

Doesn't that mean that she doesn't have any parental supervision? If so, that would explain a lot.

Why not shoot her? It will save us all a lot of tax money when she decides to get pregnant 4 more times in the next 4 years.

eroswebmaster 05-01-2005 05:17 PM

I am pro choice....HOWEVER we're talking about a child...and yeah you can put up all the BS arguments about how she might not be able to talk to her parents etc...but the simple fact is she still is a child.
She could not go and order selective surgery on her own.
Hell she can't even see an R-Rated movie..but she should be allowed the choice to terminate a pregnancy?
Ridiculous.
Now...once again HOWEVER since she is a ward of the state she should be pointed a guardian ad-litem...and then maybe put her through a series of counseling sessions where the pros and cons can be discussed rationally and then let her make her choice and the guardian ad -litem can help her pursue that choice.

I think what he's getting at and I can agree is that when the scare tactics are exaggerated and someone finds out a puff on a joint isn't going to kill you the trust factor is lost between the child and parent.

Of course coke can kill you..but parents shouldn't lump all drugs under the "can kill you" flag.

Be honest about what can happen, where taking those dangerous roads can lead.

Umm I really doubt after 10+ abortions a year she'd still be able to get pregnant

After Shock Media 05-01-2005 05:25 PM

Hmm since she was a ward of the court i.e. an orphan, foster kid, juvy, ect. Then would the state/court also be responsible for lack of supervision and allowing a 13 year old to engage in sexual acts?

The abortion element is clear cut, just like in the Shiavo case. The courts have over stepped their boundries and should get slapped down immediatly before it becomes to late for this teenager to have an abortion.

This does not matter if you think abortions should or should not be legal, or for what reasons and so on. This is again about a present law that should be followed, end of story. Though we do know it will get very political unless by some off chance the republicans have learned their lesson from last time.

I wouldn't be calling anyone dumb after saying this :

You've already voted yourself off rational argument island.

As far as causing physical harm and more to the point your quote that it 'will kill them' absofuckinglutely. Can pot harm someone to the point of killing them? no. I still have no clue where you got that I had said that pot isnt a drug. I'll take your apology anytime you want to give it. :thumbsup

can you feel the love? what a great environment to be growing up in, an irresponsible underage ward of the state mother that didn't want you..

I find it funny that a judge ruled she was incapable of making her own decision, but didn't take into consideration whether she would be a capable mother! Bow down to God.

A pregnant 13-year-old girl in Florida has been told she cannot have an abortion because she lacks the maturity to make such a decision.
A state court granted an injunction which prevents the girl from terminating her pregnancy.

She is three months pregnant and had planned to have an abortion on Tuesday of this week.

The American Civil Liberties Union says it will launch an urgent appeal against the ruling.

'Too young to choose'

Florida's department of children and families intervened and took the matter to court, arguing the teenager, who is under the care of the state, is too young and immature to make an informed medical decision. Judge Ronald Alvarez in Palm Beach accepted that argument and has granted a temporary injunction and psychological evaluation, which effectively blocks her from terminating the pregnancy.

It is a case which, once again, plays into the heated and divisive debate about abortion in America.

The judge's ruling comes in spite of Florida state law which specifically does not require a minor to seek parental consent before an abortion.

The American Civil Liberties Union 's executive director in Florida, Howard Simon, said forcing a 13-year-old to carry on an unwanted pregnancy to term, against her wishes, is not only illegal and unconstitutional, it is cruel.

once you mature you'll understand that a 13yr old does what it's parents think is best not what some asshole from the aclu thinks is best.
