Tracking a hacker down?

Does anybody have any contacts who could track a hacker down?

All resources/contact appricated...

We have the police on the case but we all know how slow they are.

Thanks

It is hard to say whether a person or a computer hacked system. Sometimes vulnerable systems attack other systems. The owner of PC or server that hacked you might not even know that there system is hacking others.

The last time my server was hacked, I just shut down webserver and found the hacker log files and deleted the file that was uploaded. I then patched or updated all of my software and changed root password and other passwords. It solved the problem for me and I never tried to track down the hacker. They usually leave a log file or irc log for you to look at.

If your server provider finds out that your system was compromised, some have mandatory policies to re-install system image which will wipe out everything.

Yeah.. ignore it.. Even if you were able to track them down, you'd have a hard as hell time prosecuting them..
And they're a HUGE chance that they're not even in the US...

If you want to give us a little more of the story, people might have more ideas..
EG: what did they hack, how did it hurt your business, etc..

Not that easy unless they are stupid and bragging on irc.

Its not gonna be easy backtracking through all the boxes they've used- especially when alot of them are in foreign countries. Your best bet is them slipping up and bragging to their friends.

not true at all, however an analytical mind can figure out intention and clues that lead to futuring entrapping of culprit not too mention they usually make a mistake that give themselves away. leave a script behind, leave a clue such as L33T talk, and many other factors. having uber knowledge is not a great plus, because it limtis to who you are and by the attack we can narrow down who it could be

on another note, we must first ask questions, because in most cases, you may asked for it, so getting involved becomes trouble for the ones who may be helping :/

anyhow seems you dont want to respond, and I have now moved on back to real life...

good luck, police lol wtf are they gonna do.... oh i see you think it's someone here
and your trying to scare em...

well analytical minds can alraedy see this, so quit wasting our time asking bs questions
about hiring a fucking tracker

Since I don't know your full information, here is what you're gonna run into.

Most of the boxs that are ddosing you are most likely zombie machines that have been mass hacked. Backtrekking to those machines and finding a helpful admin or through law enforcement might provide logs that may show you how they were hacked and a helpful ip or 2.

So assuming you can find the machine that was originally used to launch a mass rooter tool to hack the boxs that are attacking you now, what do you do at that point?
If the hacker is anyway decent, he will have 1. covered up his tracks and 2. went through several foreign machines before even sshing to his launch box.

Especially if the box is in somewhere like russia or china, do you really think the server admins will help you out? Local law enforcement won't do shit unless it involved .mil or .gov. At this point you are pretty much at a dead end unless the hacker makes a mistake.

I'll say it before and I'll say it again, most of the time these guys get caught because they decided to mouth off in a irc channel or brag to their friends about how much ddos power they have. You need someone in the underground scene to really help you get anywhere.
