People who inflate shipping prices on eBay are fucking morons!

Why sell a $10 item and charge $35 for shipping when it only weighs a maximum of 1lb!?!?! I ship 50lb boxes all day long and it NEVER costs that much unless I'm sending to Canada!

I was going to bid on an item but changed my mind when I saw the shipping cost of $45. Fucking tards kill me sometimes.

Because it means they have to pay less to ebay on the final sale charge.
Ebay's fee is calculated on the final sale price, not the shipping ^^

I don't think of shipping on ebay as shipping anymore, it is more of a way for people to get away with lower ebay fees, cause ebay has some shitty fees

I've seen people sell aluminum Antec computer cases for $1, then add $50 for shipping. Surprised Ebay doesn't do something about it, since it is basically taking money out of their pockets.

that shit pisses me off as well.

I was going to go buy a pro sized makeup case on ebay and the person selling it wanted like 20 bucks for shipping..

they lived in so cal and so do I, thats reduculous..

The shiping should be calculated on weight and distance and if they dont like ebays fees they shouldnt be on it.

I TOTALLY agree 100%! I was looking for a phone and answering system for my office and could have gotten the winning bid for $325 but they wanted $45 for shipping! I'm in Tampa and they're in Miami with a set shipping method of standard flat rate ground! It wouldn't cost more than $10 to send it, MAX!

Retail for the system is $365 so I could get it cheaper at Best Buy brand new! Fucktards lost my bid and it would have been the only bid.

So people shouldn't be able to charge a handling fee?

I don't see what the big deal is. Its like any other business. If you don't like the prices or policies, don't buy. Its that simple.

C'mon, Sly. You're smarter than that. You know as well as I do that the standard "handling fee" is between 10% and 15%. If actual shipping from Miami to Tampa is $10 then there is no way they should carge a $35 handling fee. $15 is understandable but $45!?!?!

yup I don't see that as often but all the time i see new small items that are new that are selling them $10 cheaper then the 20+ other auctions of the same thing but then the shipping is $10 more

anymore I look at only "Buy now" auctions and before I read or look at any pictures I check shipping costs

I agree...... Shipping is often the only profit on items

If they were morons they wouldnt have multi listings and massive amounts of sales.

I'm no professional ebay buyer by any stretch of the imagination. However, the person I was going to get the phone from had 4 feedbacks. I honestly don't think that they were an ebay "Power Seller".

Here's a quick solution:

Ebay plugs in shipping modules for UPS, USPS, DHL, FedEx, and any other shipping company. All of the modules are prebuilt and used for systems Worldwide. When you put an item on sale you have an option for shipping methods and what percentage you want to add for handling. The handling percentage should be maxed out at 20%.

Done. Now they make their extra money on handling and ebay still gets paid.

I think ebay is actually phasing in a new way of doing the shipping...if you start to notice they have the calculate postage thing which is becoming more and more prevalent and also some other new shipping tools

i think they caught on a while back, but are just now rolling out the new shipping tools...i would expect a change in policy regarding shipping real soon

I'm smart enough to realize that the seller would like to make a profit with their auction. I see absolutely no problem with that. Would I mark-up my shipping fees that high? No, but I WOULD mark it up high enough so that I do see a little profit for my efforts.

Again, if you don't feel comfortable with the high shipping fees, don't buy.

There is really no advantage to using cheap shipping and handling... Or is there? So why not make an extra few bucks?

ebay used to not allow that years ago.

There was once a time when the quality of products and sellers there was much better. Now they let people pull shady shit because ebay doesn't care, they get their fees so why should they give a shit about quality? The more useless auctions the more fees they make. Its like a wasteland in some of their categories.

That way they under cut the others on the price of the actual item. Think about how many people dont look at the shipping costs. Then when they finally do. that are too lazy or stupid to go and check out someone else.

I wanted to buy a set of wheels one time, they were priced about $100 lower then the competion but they wanted $250usd for shipping to Canada. I called UPS myself and I got quoted $86 and Tire rack wanted $107(same part of US).

So are you saying it's not theft? That they are not padding the shipping cost in order to avoid paying the fees owed to ebay for allowing them to post? Um, Earth to Sandman...that's theft. If someone joined one of your sites with a 3-day trial and leeched all your vids would that be considered theft?

And by the way, you mispelled "YOU'RE" again, idiot.

I onced asked an ebayer seller if he could cut the cost of shipping, he said sure I will put up the same item with a low reserve and said it all evens out. I brought the item. Got a cute little note from the seller that he would cut the shipping price to actual shipping if I ordered again by giving him a call, I did

handling fees are handling fees. that includes not only the cost of materials to ship, but their time spent in doing so. What if they have to drive mad miles to get it shipped out cuz UPS wont pickup in 'boomfuck, indiana'?

or maybe UPS picks up at their door everyday, - either way, pay up if you really want it or go get it somewhere else.

I mostly buy DVDs on eBay. I've seen lots of boxed sets way cheaper than the competition, then the S&H is $45 or so.

I don't worry about it, it's none of my business. I just look at the total cost of the item and if it's worth that to me I buy it, if not I keep looking

ebay

They do it for more than just saving on ebay fee's you also get more visits to your auction, which gets you the most bang for your buck.

If your wondering why it's on $225 and $45 shipping is because
its porbably really priced at 260 with 10 shipping, fact is you wouldnt pay that, but yet its the same price, so know need to complain
there are no deals on ebay, unless you list stupid, in which case when the person makes a stupid listing you end up never seeing the item anyhow.

Among those reasons there is yet another problem selling on ebay when lame fuckers want to ship back the crap, saying its broken etc, to replace their bad unit with your good one, this listing type ends that problem.
Which is why you always see this practice used mostly on electronic items, video game systems etc.

No someone joining for a 3 day trial and grabing all the vids and leaving is not theft you sold them the 3 day trial and gave them access to your site.
