Page Rank: Ynot vs. GFY (SE experts please advise)

I've been doing some research and I thought I was just about to understand some of the basics of PR. I'm learning about internal linking structures as well as hardlink outbound exchanges and how they work together to increase or decrease PR.

I have a PR 4 site, (it's a BBS) It only 4 or 5 outbound links that I added, including a few outbound sponsor links. (again) It's a PR 4 and only has 5 outbound links, and as far as I know it doesn't have any inbound hardlinks. It's just been sitting there for years, and it's a PR of 4.

I can understand how I got a PR 4 because of the stuff I've been reading about internal linking structures. So I decided to see if I was understanding it by going to other porn sites and seeing if the PR was about what I figured it would be based on my research. I went to AVNonline, PR4, which is what I expected. GFY, PR5, a little more than I expected. I hit a few more sites with the same expectations. Jay's XXX links, PR5. Then I went to Ynot....

GFY is a PR 5 site. It's very active and has many.. many inbound and outbound links.

Ynot has been around longer, has tons and tons of internal links as well as many.. MANY outbound and is a PR of ZERO.

What gives? How could a site as big as Ynot, have a PR of 0?? This goes against what I've learned so far. In fact it's almost like they had to specifically ask google for a PR of 0. I mean, just by default they should have a PR of 2, and that's at the VERY LEAST.

How is that possible? (How do I avoid that?) What am I not understanding?

GFY bans google internally so the pages do not have PR so it has nothing to do with the size of GFY and maybe ynot bans at the door. Check the robot text.

I'm not sure how these work, but this probably has something to do with it.

how can I peep GFY's robots.txt? It's not off the main domain. And how would banning google from seeing internal links increase your PR, if your PR is also based on your internal link structure?

I believe banning the internal links just prevents them from getting picked up in the search engines as much. I don't think that affects the index page PR at all. GFY probably just has a high PR from all the people linking to it.

I looked at the robots.txt for YNOT but how does that code ban google?
As far as YNOT goes, I see the Ynot banner recip on just about every adult resource out there. That's why in my mind they should have SOME PR.

Thanks for your answers by the way.

If you do redirects to another page it usually wont show the pr..

Like for example www.cecash.com also has a high pr , but it kicks you to another page as soon as you enter thus its not really showing the real pr.

well, as they are both the same URL, I would expect that they would be identical.

Google is updating, so maybe it is just where you are coming from

I think that's it. I'm old school so I always go to ynotmasters.com then it redirects me to Ynot.com and at first it was showing me a PR of 0.

BTW: YNot only seems to have a PR5 at certain datacenters.
The rest are showing a PR of 0, so I'm guessing things will even out on the next update. I'm not sure why the sudden drop across the board.

Never just use googletoolbar to assess PR. Check all known google datecenters with a tool like this: http://www.darbyfamily.com/q-check/datatool.asp

Hey,

Remember YNOT just switched from YNOTMASTERS.com to YNOT.com so that might be part of it. ;)

RedShoe, another thing to keep in mind is google changes the criterea for PageRank based on content and theme of the site. For example, you said you were looking at jays-xxx-links.com thats a porn site, so for him to achieve PR5-6 is very tough. GFY & YNOT are webmaster resources (not as competitive as 'free porn') so a PR5 would be easier to achieve. Depending how competitive any given "niche" or "market" is, it could be easier or harder to achieve a high PR. With porn, its all the same. Don't think I meant if you're optimizing for anal it may be easier then amateurs, but what I meant was if you make a site for baking cookies you would probably accumulate PR a lot easier then if you were making a site for 'free porn'.

Don't obsess over PR, it's because less and less of a factor in Google's algorithm (mostly likely due to abuse and, of course, everyone obsessing over it!). Focus on getting relevant inbound links that will bring quality traffic and look at PR boosts as a bonus.

this thread is wrong for so many reasons.
redshoe I highly recommend you to read more about pagerank from resources OTHER than GFY cuz a lot of the people giving seo advise over here got no clue at all.
read a neutral comment about PR and how it works cuz this thread will not answer all your questions

I thought it could be of some significance.

For instance, if you link to relevant "authority sites" throughout your site rather than only other sites you have on the same shared IP, your ranking could be effected I thought.

where in baddogs comment do you read anything about ranking, authority sites, ips or anything?

this is about Pagerank
and no you don't gain PR from linking to other pages
how much sense would that make anyways lol
I link to 1000s of pages and get a PR10
haha

Where did I say you could so easily insult the intelligence of Google that they wouldn't filter for someone throwing up a ton of outbound links to gain more ranking prominence. Having a few links to relevant authority sites that are topical to the page rather than spamming your own network of sites must have some degree of effect on rankings.
