You guys missed the funny part.

He is the same as the kid "silent thunder". He posted 3600 times in one contest thread last month. At the end of the contest, he posted to collect his prize money, he accidently used the wrong username.

He changed to spideriux or whatever because he was busted chatting with himself to win the contest.

Yep, that's why he started posting over on that other board...paid to post. That didn't last for long after seeing how many post the guy could actually make :1orglaugh

This guy they are talking about is also "silent thunder" among others.

Thats over 10,000 posts in 2 months. More impressive than 6,000.

I agree with you at all.
THERE ARE MANY kids from Lithuania right now, and all that shit starts to stink!!
I really can't understand some morons(read n00bs), which posts a LOT. They are posting only in those contests threads and nothing else. They are simply useless!! And they post here only for money!! Fucking idiots!!
Huh, I really get pissed when I see those pathetic n00bs, which are members for a month or so and they post 100+ per day, ONLY IN CONTESTS THREADS!!

Pathetic and poor, indeed.
:disgust

Lensman 04-20-2005 08:42 AM

Yeah, those contest threads bug me. I think contests should be allowed, but there has to be some sort of limit.

I am open to suggestions.

beta-tester 04-20-2005 08:44 AM

I agree with you Lensman. There should be a limit. Something like 50 posts per day max allowed per person, or something like that ??

Maybe arrange contests based webmaster skills and not on "whoever can post the most, wins".

Yes that's good idea too.
Something like: "Provide some proofs that you're successful webmaster, provide sites which you run, etc, etc. And after that you can participate in this contest".

Have the competition owners at least make sure that active affiliates are taking part, but then you face the problem of the programs lying so their thread just gets packed.

They should at least by slightly webmaster orientated by rule, instead of just a post frenzy. Posts are ad views, but some of those threads exploit ad money out of the board by taking it to the max, It's cool to have one once in a while but not like 10 on the front page at once.

But what do I know, I'm just a postwhore :winkwink:

Affiliate Programs sponsoring the contests should come up with their own contest rules that are NOT based on the amount of posting.

DarkJedi 04-20-2005 08:57 AM

Lensman, an easy way out: place a ban on contests that are based on posting.

Right now, these contests serve only 1 thing - to have the promotion thread on top of page 1 for weeks (because of all the constats bumps).

Come up with a liberal prices for sticky threads - for example, $1000 for a 10 day sticky thread.

This way you make money, and post whores are discouraged from posting thousands of useless posts.

Manowar 04-20-2005 08:59 AM

DarkJedi is the fifth ninja turtle.

sticky threads for 10 day would be worth far more than that

polish_aristocrat 04-20-2005 09:00 AM

btw the original contests were like "every 500th post wins $100" and now it's like "the user with the most posts in this thread wins $500, thread is valid for 30 days etc"

FunForOne 04-20-2005 09:07 AM

Well, I was hoping the contest participants would police themselves and "out" any of the cheaters and surfers. I've tried to do that to some degree.

A good and easy rule would be to qualify for a contest, you must be registered at least 6 months etc...

Instead of announcing prizes ahead of time like top poster gets 200 bucks, 4th poster gets 300 bucks, have it random and announced at the end of the contest.

Dildozer 04-20-2005 09:07 AM

Anyone signed up after feb 2005 should be banned

cool1 04-20-2005 09:09 AM

Do away with the most posts part of contests.
The part with the prize at post number such and such are ok.
Lenman should also charge sponsors who want to put on a contest a fee for letting them hold the contest on GFY.

Or at least look at them really closely and make them prove they are in the industry and were in the industry before before the paris thread.

Tom_PM 04-20-2005 09:17 AM

No more than 2 posts in a row should do it.
More than 2, disqualified.
Person with 2 accounts, both disqualified.

And forcing people to be registered for 6 months would defeat the ability to get new members to the board for contests announced elsewhere (such as a programs support board or whatever)

Anyway, I mostly ignore those threads if they're based on raw VOLUME of posts. Thats just ASKING (literally) for people to post as much as possible..

They are pointless anyway.

stop crying

FunForOne 04-20-2005 09:27 AM

Another funny thing is the people right now winning all the post count contests are a husband and wife owners of a design company. Also, there "employee" of their company is coming in 3rd.

I'm talking about 20,000 post in that last two months.

their design site: = Unfinished.

Would you let your employee post 10,000 in a contest thread if your main source of income was unfinished.

Sure doesn't make me want to hire them

Furious_Male 04-20-2005 09:31 AM

Perhaps its time to get rid of "would you hit it" threads.. Don't spam your content on the boards buy an ad spot.

News threads.. Honestly who needs 50 threads about the latest current event. Even surfers know how to get to news sites. Why does the same thing have to be posted over and over.

Fake personalities should be killed as well. Its against the rules to have more then 1 account. Why do these fake personalities get to post in every thread acting like idiots.

I hit x amount of post threads.. What the hell good are those? They should be banned.

Fake drama threads.. 80% of the board is made up of these. Always 2 webmasters fighting, calling each other names, threatening each other etc. These should be banned. Take it to email or the phone.

:winkwink:

No just making a point. All things need to be monitored and regulated.
