Suicide 'link' between partners
The partner of a person who has committed suicide is significantly more likely to take their own life, researchers have found.
But men who had lost their partner to suicide were 46 times as likely to commit suicide themselves, three times the risk for women bereaved this way. A spokeswoman for the Samaritans told the BBC News website: "Men find it more difficult to seek emotional help than women." http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/4441109.stm ---------- you think that men have a problem sharing their emotions to the point that they are willing to kill themselves? I would think that it was because women can find a mate easier than a man, but that women would be more distraught - then again - men after marrying do become more dependant on the women to look after them so it may be a feeling of helplessness. My dad was in his 70s when he lost my mom 3 years ago. He went through mourning, but found a friend of his and they married a year afterwards. yes, it was sudden, but as a family we would prefer to see him happy then live out the rest of his life miserable.

Legacy, who says it is easier for a woman to find a partner later in life? When I look at my family, I see the older men attracting women who want to get married. However, from studies I have read, it does appear that men are more *lost* in later years when the wife dies first.
Suicide is always difficult on the entire remaining family. Have you noticed how men seem to cry much more easily when they age? Why can't they do that when they are younger! This goes back to what you said about men finding it more difficult to find emotional help. |
