Out planet has been bombarded by asteroids since the birth of the planet. It's not a matter of if,,, but when. As technology grows, you will see more warnings,, but the chances of getting hit increase with time,, so this is nothing new.

Wouldn't mankind be able to blast it off towards a different direction?

There are several options. Blasting it, redirecting it, landing on it and having a party.

According to the Mayan Calendar 2012 is the end of time.
Nostradamas said 2012 is the magic number also.

Numerous psychics have said 2012 is the end as well.

"Startled astronomers calculated at one point that its chances of a direct hit on Friday, April 13, 2029, were 1 in 38.

An interceptor mission is feasible and Dr Peiser said that an opportunity would arise in 2012, when 2004 MN4 will be ten million miles from Earth. ?That?s not a big distance as far as space missions go,? he said."

Most astronomical calculations are wrong.

Cheers.

I use to read that bullshit all the time and believe in it, then I found reality.
If it was news of a serious interest you would hear of it. That's what makes it news
this is just pure pen plotting to keep readers interest at bay. they have their tricks for
monthly converstions as well you know
