Help! My computer got screwed!!

I have posted this on some tech forum and didnt get anything to make it work. Im have around 30-or 40 bucks left in paypal and am ready to give it to anyone who can solve my problem. It is very important and I dont have time to send it to a tech shop and get it back after like 2 weeks. Heres what happened.

I booted my computer this morning, everything working fine. Then after the boot it said windows had some updates ready to install, so I install them, and decide not to boot right away. In the meanwhile, I download from download.com <wm recorder> to save stream videos. After installing that too, I decided to reboot. And here the problem starts. The first screen is <Compaq>, then it goes to load windows xp. I see the green line loading, and when it looks like it finished loading to display the desktop screen, it boots back to the original Compaq screen. Then loads the green line in windows xp, then restarts back to Compaq. This goes on forever! I tried booting with safe mode, it does the same thing. There was an option like <boot like the last known configuration>, but it does the same thing, forever booting! I dont know what to do. It is the primary computer in my house with ALL the important files, etc... I need to get it working!! I cant even boot to safe mode!
The computer is Compaq presario, AMD athlon 2600+, 512 ddr, and 120 gb.
Thanks in advance!

You did create your ememgency boot disk, didn't you? Use it and see if you can uninstall the updates which might solve the problem.

I have not tried any command prompt, I have never used that. As for the emergency boot disk, well, no. I always thought I would use the system recovery option if anything happened, when I press f10 in the beginning. When I try to load that, the same thing happens. Boots again..

Sounds like the dreaded format:\\c if you can't get into safe mode to get to the restore feature

if you get the scrolling win xp screen you should be able to get the safe mode box, as the machine boots jam on the f8 key to get that menu and the "last known good" option is always a piece of shit.

Mahs f8 key during boot till you get the prompt that offers safe mode, boot in safe, then ASAP get to systme restore and go back in time. If that doens't work, I don't know.
