Access might work better or a combo of access/excel. I setup a mini-tower behind my desk and hooked up a KVM switch so I can switch to the other computer when I am updating records. Not even my wife knows about that pc and it is not connected to any network, most importantly the internet. I back it up once a week with an external harddrive.

I use Quicken, I have quick books also but prefer Quicken because it can download all my transactions from my bank for both personal and business accounts

Quicken Home and Business is a good blend between Quicken and Quickbooks. It has good small biz features including assigning categories to tax forms, etc, and does all the automatic download stuff that Quicken does.

You can password protect your data files, and even password protect individual transactions.

It's cheap, and the learning curve is trivial.
