How do you deodorise leather?

I have a new seat which has a weird sort of smell...

What generic methods can you use to deodorise (or scent) it?

Go to a leather clothing store, or a motorcycle shop that sells leather accessories. They'll have spray-on cleaners and deodorizers.

I can't remember the name off-hand, but there's a spray something like the "new car smell" stuff for leather.

If it's an office chair that you bought from Office Works or Target then good luck with it - we have two that we bought over a year ago and still can't get the smell out of them no matter what we try.

Bingo. Officeworks ergonomic.

It's a very strange salty, sweaty sort of smell, like a big fat guy sat on it naked for a few months they boxed it up.

My wife has another chair from officeworks, a cheaper vinyl one... no problems with smells there!

Rowan - we've tried a lot of stuff and we think the smell has something to do with the padding inside the seat. We noticed it almost as soon as we unpacked the boxes.

While we were using them constantly about the only thing that kept the smell under control was regular spraying with Febreeze.

We tend to go through chairs about every 12 months and when it came time to replace them we went back to cloth covered chairs. Up here in Qld they're much more comfortable than leather.

Marie just reminded me too - monitor your health while you have those chairs. We saw a report on the news a while back about a family who bought a new leather lounge suite that had a similar sort of smell about it.

In the end whatever it was that was causing that smell had gone right through the house and affected their health to the point where they had to sell up and move out. Getting rid of the lounge didn't fix the problem for them.
