Has someone "Made it" when they...

When would you consider someone as having "Made It" in this industry? When they are living nice? Driving a good car?

Do you have to actually make lets say $200K in a year or can you just be on target to do so? Is that enough to have "Made It" in a sense or do you need more?

I am in line to make 3 times the median household income for California the year. I guestimate I will actually do 4 to 5 times that amount. Have I made it or do I still have to prove myself by getting there by years end?

Also, let me just say, this industry kicks ass. Even the biggest dicks on GFY are cooler than mainstream associates.

Thanks.

man, it's all relative

in 10 minutes someone will reply to this thread saying that he would starve to death with $200k per year, while there are lots of others who make $50k per year and are happy

So true... and it also depends on where you live. In the US or Europe, you can easily make $100k/year and be in trouble; but then, if you live in India for example, you'd be a god if you made the same amount.

i am pretty much there now....now, i don't think I coulkd go buy a ferrari or antyhing with what is in my bank account....but in the past year there is nothing that I haven't wanted that i haven't gotten....to me, i have made it...and the only way to go from here is up if I play my cards right

I am happy, i have a better marriage than 90% of the other married people I know, I have a nice amount of money in savings, and I have NO debts...

Proof that the Polish are smarter than they appear.

This kinda sucks though... It means that I will not be happy at 200K doesn't it?

Hehe, right. Big point here! My girlfriend is NOW certain that she wants to marry me. Ask her about a year ago and it'd be iffy... "He spends all fucking day looking at porn!" I'd say, "Hey, not fair! I am reviewing galleries for someone ELSE to look at!"

Now she is comfortable with me working in porn and on porn. Money has a way of changing things. I think she also relaxed a bit after she starting asking me about my work and asking for explanations of what I am actually doing. Then she decided I am not just a zombie porn surfer but a pretty good marketer and manager of surfers and data.

It really helps when your significant other is on your side (and by your side).

in my view, you've made it when you've reached your goal... enjoy it for a little bit, then set a higher goal and consider yourself 'havent made it yet' until u hit it, and keep moving up...

find new role models, think to yourself... wow i may make xk per yer, thats GREAT... BUT....... this other guy i know makes xk*10 per year... so relatively, you ain't shit, and need to move your ass.... basically you'd have no reason to relax until you outdo Gates...

You know you made it when people respect you. It's all about respect. I know people who make shitloads of money, are not respected at all and have an ugly fat-assed GF. I know people who make fuck all and have the nicest GF's and are happy as fuck.

"100K$/year and you'll be in trouble" -> does anyone on this board KNOW what 100K/year is? That's fuckloads of money. If you invest that kind of money and live modest, you'll be rich by 50.

Raising the bar = sound advice. Originally when I got into this, my goal was to suppliment my income. Basically just add another quarter. Then it became a half and then to double it. Then to leave my day job (which I did). Then to broaden out so that the money didn't fluctuate. Now it is to raise that bar and double the income again by using methods I am not currently using.

One thing that bothers me is seeing someone be OK working 9 to 5 with 8 hours of overtime (6th day or making it 9 to 7 or something) and just plugging along for their 40 to 50K a year. Investing in the 401K and knowing they will most likely never do more for themselves. I have a lot of friends in that boat and I was in it only 2 years ago. Sucks to not be in control of your life.

This industry is kickass... don't ever let anyone tell you differently.

I knew I made it when I was able to provide for my family
give them what they want
be home when they need me home
and not to have to worry

500k does not mean you made it
hell sometimes even a 100k a year doesnt mean you made it
I am a between 75k-100k a year and I am happy with that.
I feel I have made it.
Made it in life. I am able to provide with out no worrys.

You make it when you are comfortable with your life. Besides money, you know you've made it if you can balance a comfortable social life with a thriving career life. You've made it when you can set your mind to do something, and you do it.

I feel I've made it as I have a beautiful fiance, 2 homes, a great car, my health, a college degree, a loving family, and enough projects that if 1 thing goes down, I have plenty of backups.

I'd like to quote one of you but everyone has such valid points.

Then I guess I should feel as though I've made it to my first goal. Be in the same mindset as JuzupChris, Shermsshack and JaceXXX. Now that I can provide for my family and feel confident about my income, it is time to set a goal of not getting to deep into work?

Why do you need to prove anything to anyone?

sounds like you are getting caught up in all these fake claims on this board.

I grew up in a family household with 3 kids making less than 25k a year. The year I earned 25k on my own I thought I'd 'made it'.

its all relative honestly.

Self employed and working in adult. That triples or quadruples your risks at least 3-4 fold compared to a decent corporate job, so you should make *at least* 3-4 X of what you could realistically make in a 9-5 job
