You do have an option so you never have this happen again. Canada does offer full pardons, I believe it is 7 years after the charge. You can apply for it. If your record shows that you have not had any problems since they will give you the pardon without any problem.

Once you have the pardon customs, law enforcement, employers etc. can no longer treat it like a conviction since you have received a full pardon.

Hi New User, I hate to say it man but you're in the same boat I am in now. You will be harrassed by the US customs until the day you die about the entry denial that just happened yesterday.

I was denied back in 2001 for not having a return ticket for my trip to see my father who lives in the states. Everytime I travel to the states they always want to ask me about the denial which happened 4 years ago.

I always get in to the states but I have to show up super early to deal with any customs hassles that might occur.

Same thing happened to me when I went to Canada to retrieve my ex wife who US Customs wouldn't let back into the US after visiting her Mom after we got married & before her permanent resident appointment @ Imigration. I had to jump through all types of hoops & show them love letters between us, phone bills, marriage certificates, wedding photos, and prove that we were really an American couple. It sucked balls but we got it all straightened out in about 3 months. After all that... we got a divorce 2 years later. Now I only cross the border to go skiing or sun worshiping on a beach.

He's right... I forgot about that. My pot charge is now almost 20 years old but I better get it erased. Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the link.

I was told years ago that the record would be expunged automatically, so I never took any steps to have it done. Again my mistake.

Good Lord! When will you people learn to ask for the Port Director when you are being treated unfairly???!!!! US Customs just came out with a huge long list of "Rights" you have when crossing the border. I cross everyday and I raise a HUGE stink when people start asking me questions that have absolutlety no relevance about me or my bussiness in the States. Just ask for the supervisor....then his supervisor....and so on until you get to the Port Director.

Coming back from a visit to Vancouver was a bad experience for me too

As me and one of my models walked past the drug dog, the fucker lifted its head and sniffed my ass...

They immediately take us into a back room and tear apart our bags, x-ray stuff, and threaten us with strip searches.

They demand to know where the drugs are and tell us how much trouble we are in.
I told them they are not going to find any drugs

customs agent: THE DOG DOES NOT LIE
me: I wore these pants in a smokey club last night.. maybe thats what the dog smelled
Customs agent: OH YEAH!? what else was in this club? COCAINE!? ECSTACY!?
Me: I dunno.. it was a shitty club, i had two crappy canadian beers and left
Customs agent: *snapping rubber glove* This is your last chance boy.
Me: If you wanna shove your hand up my ass, you go right ahead, You won't find anything up there except shit.

After that he decided i was serious and had no drugs and let us go...

ugh.. I hate US Customs

Ok a couple of things:

1. I am talking about CANADIAN CUSTOMS, U.S. has actually never been anything but really cool to me and my wife.

2. This happened almost a year ago, not yesterday.

3. Ya I have the denial on record, but it is also accompanied with a U.S. Congressman, Canadian MP and other Immigration officers who all ammended the record to show that they were strongly against the mistreatment we had received and that we pose no threat and should always be let in no problems. Now I get hurried across like I have the plague because they are worried about their jobs if I get any trouble.

ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS Go to get help from political officials.

In retrospect they wouldn't have seen anything if I hadn't said anything.

Frankly, they might not even have found anything- they could have denied me solely on what I told them. *pounding head against wall*

They refused to tell me what exactly they had found.

I left early this morning with one of our models to catch the ferry to Vancouver. I could not be more excited about heading down there, especially since Vegas was such a great time in January. We arrive well on time to the airport and are pulled aside by US customs for questioning.

No big deal, happens all the time, I travel to the USA 4-5 times a year. I'm assigned a scrawny 130 pound snickering, condescending agent who proceeds to ask me about past criminal history. I answer the same way I always do, Yes, I have a drug conviction- posession of pot.

That I got when I was 15 years old..

Yes, 15 years ago. And a clean record since, haven't even had so much as a drop of alcohol in 12 years now, much less drugs.

Well our US customs agent has decided now that he would like to flex what little power he has- to the absolute maximum level possible. He begins with small remarks to try and get a rise out of me, insinuating that I am lying to him. I smile and respond politely and honestly to every question. I'm so excited about the Phoenix Forum that it doesn't even occur to me that I'm not going to be allowed into the country.

I ask him politely if there's any chance of us still making the flight, to which answer nothing more than a slight shrug.

He asks me how much I was busted with 15 years ago, I say I honestly don't remember. To which he smirks, rolls his eyes and leans back and looks over to the other agents shaking his head.

I'm in disbelief at this stage at what a complete asshat this guy is. I cannot for the life of me figure out why he's acting like such an unprofessional jerk.

He then asks me with much incredulation "How can you not remember how much you had?!" To which I reply "Because it was 15 years ago" with my voice rising all of 3 decibals.

He then gives me the wide-eyes and warns me for a full minute that if I so much as raise my voice to him again he will have me thrown out of the airport. "Would you like that? You want me to have you thrown outta here?" he says to me. It suddenly dawns on me: I'm being verbally bullied by a man-child.

I'm instructed to wait outside, where another customs official (different department) kindly offers myself and my friend a drink, and, seeing my total frustration, confides in me that the guy I'm dealing with has a history of complaints against him. He strongly encourages me to lodge a complaint, insinuating that the guy I'm dealing with has few strikes against him left.

Meanwhile our flight has long since left. The airline has come into customs to instruct us that there won't be another flight until tomorrow.

The guy finally calls me back to his counter to happily tell me that they have found sufficient grounds to deny me entry into the USA. I calmly ask why, and he informs me that the found the drug charge to be sufficient enough reason to deny me.

The pot charge I incurred 15 years ago as a young teen.

I speak to his supervisor who tells me that he actually had suggested I be allowed through as the matter was so trivial, but the little man syndrome victim insisted I not be allowed.

I let little man syndrome victim know I'll be lodging a complaint against him for the way he handled it. He responds with the expected smarmy reply "Great! I hope you do!".

I tell the other (kind and helpful) agent that I will be writing a letter letting his bosses know how helpful and considerate he was through the ordeal.

For all of you in Phoenix who I was so looking forward to meeting and networking with, hopefully sometime soon, August Internext provided I can get this cleared up by then.

Have fun in Phoenix this weekend everyone, wish I could be there with you.

<End Rant>

Dude, I am with you 100%.

Last year when I came home from the Phoenix Forum, I had video of the lightspeed girls jumping nude on the trampoline. IN THE FOOTAGE you can see some of the Phoenix police were there watching.

The Customs Agent who reviewed this tape asked me "What kind of sick person gets off on this shit?" and that I should be ashamed as the girls looked 16 and he could keep my camera and could do this and do that and do this.... but he was being "nice" and let me go.

WHAT THE FUCK?

Customs agents, almost every one of them, are serious fags.

the problem is most custom agents (at least in NZ) are high school drop outs who think they are the shit..
i am a NZ citizen i know more about the immigaration act, hazardous substance act than most retarded custom agents...
being a good citizen i make sure everytime i return i do not carry any substance which is forbidden (NZ is very strict on this issue) by law.
yut it seems that everytime i travel through the airport i am the only person to be stopped ad embarressed in front of all the passengers. i am there are hundreds of people who dont know crap about nz yut they only stop me every single time..
why? beacause i am indian so i am bound to be carrying something illegal..
the good thing is i can tell them they are f**kin wa*nkers and their is nothing they can do about it because i am as clean as they come..
so if u ever come to NZ and see a guy telling a whole bunch of custom agents to go fuck themself its probably me...

Do your elf a favor. Next time, get on a flight to Mexico. Then cross the border in Tijuana. It is really easy. Fly from Sandiego to anywhere you want to go.

Even if I thought I had a shot at successfully suing, I probably wouldn't bother. Would rather just put it behind me and start planning for Internext in August.

That pardon would be useless now that US customs knows about the offence.

Damn, what a shitty story. All it takes is one pesky gnat to ruin a great weekend ... There can be 20 agents on duty and if you end up with the clown, it's good night.

I remember I took a connecting flight to Frankfurt through Minnesota 2 years ago (I missed my original flight, long story) and was going to be in the USA for literally 90 minutes - not even time to leave the terminal, never mind the airport.

Whether it was because I was a single man who in the Summer can pass for Middle Eastern, or this guy was just being an ass, he grilled me as well. I finally told him "I'm not GOING to the US, I'm only passing through as I have NO CHOICE! I MISSED MY ORIGINAL FLIGHT!!!"

Anyway, he finally let me go but I could tell he was just trying to make me sweat for a bit, taking advantage of the fact I was already stressed for missing my original flight.

This is correct. I was arrested as a minor for vandalism and it was wiped clean off my record when I turned 18. Since it's a misdemeanor, it'll only appear in court records and nowhere else. Cops or customs agents cannot see a record of it. You're not supposed to consider it as a prior arrest.

I spent over two hours at customs on Monday night. The agent asked me literally dozens of questions, searched my bags and spent a long time looking me up in the computers. Nothing was ever mentioned regarding my arrest as a minor, and when he asked about prior arrests, I said none.

Hey Andy, Since 911 they have been real ass's at the border. Drug and assault charges are number one on their stop list. Even if you have a pardon in Canada the U.S. does not recognize it.
My friends with past records apply for waivers before they head down. It's kind of like being pre approved to travel south. You might have to look into it before heading south again.

Nope, it is very valuble. He will receive paperwork showing that he has received a full pardon. When shown to the U.S. customs they have no choice but to back off, because a full pardon is exactly that, a pardon and it can no longer be held against you.

A friend of mine was bascially in the same situation as this guy, constantly hassled by U.S. customs over a teenage pot conviction. He went for the full pardon, received it and the next time he went over the border and customs hassled it he whipped out the full pardon and they back off. It has been about 5 years now since he showed customs his pardon and they made a copy of it and they have never pulled him aside since.

shitty deal bro. A little while ago me and my father were travelling over seas and had a stop over in the states. My father is arab, and he was going back home to Morocco with the intent of buying a condo there. Long storey, but in short he had to bring cash. So he had 60k in cash, all in a money belt. Trust me, if you're an arab, with 60k in cash, dont try and cross the US border LOL.

anyway, sucks that it killed your weekend, but like a lot of others have pointed out, it could be worse.

God man... I was stuck with some guys driving the bus for NatNet almost 2 years ago trying to cross the border into canada in NY. These people have a complete ego trip on themselves. We got flagged cause, stupidly, I told them I was going to montreal for biz. They pulled us into the station and were asking me and my friend about our records, which we had none. The guy ran our shit, then flipped out about arrests years earlier that didn't even result in convictions and were dropped for both of us. They denied us entry so we had to take a route through vermont(thanks dugmor). There we both said we were there for liesure and all was well.

That dude had such a "I have a hardon" face at the new york crossing. Fucking disgusting. ya, I'm trying to pull one over on him because of an arrest that didn't result in a conviction or even a plea.
