Solving Computer Problems Companies Can't... aka Microsoft & Toshiba

This is one of those "how I fixed the shit" threads.

Windows Media Center XP 2005 and Movie Maker 2.

Of course it involves Service Pack 2 but here's the skinny.

Problem involved video IN and conflicts. Searched all over the web and lo and behold I wasn't the only one. there were entire websites devoted to these problems and so called experts who, of course, could only solve the problem by leading you to their websites and buying third party hardware and software.

Several problems that hadn't been solved in 3 fucking years???

So for 2 hours, I and a Toshiba tech support kid from like Hong Kong, worked the troubleshooting til even HE was stumped. The company hadn't even given him an updated 2005 Window Media Center troubleshooting guide!

I had to use the video gamer, developer skills ( what little I have ) and at the last minute solve the problem and point out the accessories conflicts etc.

One day multiple problems solved for several companies!

I'll share it on the troubleshooting boards of course but foremost is how much conflict and lack of updated cooperation these big ass companies have.

They advertise these 'programs', sell em' but don't solve the shit when problems arise.

It never fails that if I have a software and hardware problem millions of others have it and somehow I end up solving this shit. Just last month I had to solve a firmware problem for SONY Vaio! Like that's my fucking job???

We need to knuckle down on these companies and remind them WE are the customers and WE don't want to or need to spend our precious time fixing their shit they've just sold to us.

You lost that bet bud. It's posted not only at MS' site but even in the manuals under their troubleshooting guide.

If there was that serious of a problem i'm sure they would have posted something up on M$'s windows update site. If the problem was something to do with drivers and hardware confilicts then i'd suggest taking it up with toshiba as it's their OEM software and M$ isnt obligated to provide support.
