ASACP IS THE VICTIM OF MAJOR EMAIL SPOOF ATTACK AND NEEDS YOUR HELP

Los Angeles - (March 21, 2005) ? The Association of Sites Advocating Child Protection (ASACP.org) was the victim of a major email spoof attack on Sunday evening as were many innocent victims including children.

ASACP is contacting the abuse and legal departments of all affected companies requesting the header information of the emails sent to their customers, so that its forensic researchers can investigate and forward the information to the FBI/AG.

If anyone has received this spoofed email or has additional information, please contact us at [email protected].

As a result of this spoofed email, ASACP has been receiving many emails from terrified and confused adults and teenagers who are very concerned. The majority of responders have said that they don?t visit adult websites and are concerned about the possiblity of having unknowingly downloaded illegal content.

As always, ASACP is advising people to send any suspected CP websites to the CP reporting page (http://www.asacp.org/report.php)

ASACP is the organization that helps the adult site industry make a difference in the battle against child pornography. In addition to its hotline, ASACP provides a self-regulatory vehicle for its members through a Code of Ethics that promotes the protection of children through responsible, professional business practices (http://www.asacp.org/bestpractices.html).

Yes, we are working with Yahoo, Verizon and Comcast - they will turn over the header information to the FBI/Attorney General both in the state of origin and CA (because ASACP is in LA).

I have no axe to grind with you. I have no fingers to point, no room to spare for judgements. I was simply making a comment that I found it peculiar that you would publically be reduced to insulting and quite possibly intentionally hurting someone's feelings with your unkind words. I don't know you very well but one of the most positive things I have heard about you from your own employees, is that you are disciplined in the art of taking the high road. Whether or not Joan is what you say she is, remains subjective to you. I guess I am just feeling a little disappointed in people these days, that very often what we think we might know about them, is often not the case. And well, most times it's more disappointing than refreshing.

So again, apparently this person was referring to another Steve Lightspeed because I was told his approach to these kinds of sitautions was more noble than what we have seen on the boards today.

And to answer your question about why I am not working with GigaCash anymore, I won't address that in a public forum. Never have and never will. I won't do that to Helmy, won't paint a bad picture of a two sided story. But if you are truley interested in my life and wanting to become involved in such a private, intimate aspect of it, perhaps you should begin by asking me out for a drink.

Let me tell you about the Steve that I know.

There once were some young girls who wanted to be somebody. So he made them into somebody. Not like a pimp would at a bus station in L.A... No, Steve took them under his wing and did some softcore sites with them. Made them big stars.

One of those stars decided to leave that place under his wing. She faught with him like a child does with a parent when they are trying to become independent. Steve understood this and didn't jump into fits of irrational behavior. He was the adult here. He kept his composure and confided in some people he thought of as friends as well as his adult family.

In the end the star realized her misdeeds and apologized. Steve took her back and created an atmosphere where all parties involved would be comfortable with the situation.

That is the Steve Lightspeed that I know.

The problem with being purely democractic in voting is that you end up with a big popularity contest, where it is more about ego and getting members to vote for someone, rather than for having people who can truly provide guidance and additional opinions and observations while serving on the advisory board.

You are wrong, and forgiven. The "people" that you are referring to that are "freaking out" are some teenagers and adults who were very surprised and confused at receiving the notice.

There are plenty of phishing scams that go on, and receiving an email letter that has a professionally created website, would certainly cause anyone that received such a notice to be concerned.

Your analogy of a prank doesn't hold up due to the fact that this "prank" broke several laws and when caught, would be faced with several felony charges.

Pretending to be the principal and pulling a "prank" doesn't get you thrown in jail as will the actions by the persons who did this "prank".

There was no "ASACP email list" that was used. Someone took the time to run an email harvester to grab a list of emails, targetting non-porn websites in order to send out the message.
