Google combining image search results into main SERPs - GoFuckYourself.com

I haven't done a search lately with the word "pics" or "pictures" in them, but I started to noticed when doing a search for some keywords (not adult) that Google is putting some image search results directly into the main serps. Has this been going on for a while or is this new as I never recalled seeing this before.

As I mentioned, I rarely search for keywords that have "pics" in them and I wanted to know if this was new or not. I think it is rather new but I thought I would have heard about it on webmasterworld or other sources first so I wanted to check.

Seems to be based on searches with the phrase pics, pic, pictures, picture, image, images, etc. etc...

YARGH! I noticed it for the first time yesterday, so I be thinkin' maybe just recently they're includin' the picky pics. I like it as a lot 'o' me Moby boner swabbin' pics be spidered. I'm doubtin' they'll ever show up on the first page though, being that they have naked boobilas and such. AHOY me searchers!

I'm almost certain this is new. The very good book "Google Hacks" v.2 was recently released and doesn't mention anything about pictures showing up in SERPs.

I noticed that a few days ago, but I don't recall if I used the word pics or pictures in the search phrase or not . . . thought it was a little weird, but did not give much thought to it at the time . . . now if I can just remember what search I did that I saw that happen

not true. the results i noticed it on did not include those words. i forget the search results, but it had something to do with some country a friend mentioned to me. i'll get the country name off him later and link it to the search results. but it's definetly not exclusively for those pics, though I guess for the most part it is.

I said it seemed that way. If you look at my own examples, the keyword anime produces results as well, so its a bit of a wider scope but quite often it is based around pic based searches.

Try to search for "logos" and you will get the same result

YARGH! Most likely an algorithm that calculates how many pics were "hit" by the word, if it goes higher than a certain number it shows the pic results too.

I am pretty sure the search I did had nothing to do with images or pictures when I got that result . . . has happened a couple times for me . . .will pay more attention the next time

Your search does not need to include "pic" or "pictures" or whatever for it to show up. Seems very random at this point. I hope they add an option to Preferences, so the feature may be switched off.

Exactly how do they pick what two pictures to be shown? It's not the first two results.

And most importantly for google is where is the cash in that ?

The google hotlinking machine is already pushing legality as far as im concerned.

But why make it even more useable since it doesnt make them any money and actually draws surfers away from the adwords program.

well since the pic search is pulling them away from the adwords it might be a good idea to mix pics in the regular listing so they can always show adwords

I noticed it around two weeks ago on celebrity keywords. Related to and I guess to support this, there seems to be a much larger amount of images indexed as I've got more traffic from images without doing anything on image optimizing those sites.
