I like foie gras. I had it once in a french place, pan fried, shaved truffle on top served on a parmesan crisp. Can't really beat that.

Couldn't eat it too often though.

The methods used to turn duck and goose livers into the "delicacy" known as pâté de foie gras are anything but delicate. Foie gras is a French term meaning "fatty liver" and its production involves force-feeding birds to produce this cruel animal product.
The ducks and geese force-fed for foie gras are being compelled to consume much more high-energy food?mostly corn?than they would eat voluntarily. This damages their liver and often kills them.

thanks, I was just remembering how Ive seen that on a farm in France, REALLY nice, they connect these gooses to a pipe so they have to eat it, it kills them instantly, this has nothing to do with ppl being carnivors, imho its disgusting.

I'm not sure how you were turned into a troll in this thread.

Maybe I need to read it again.

Foie Gras is something I just couldn't get myself to try. I'll try most things, that's not one of them.

I totally agree with you . My main problem with Foie Gras is that animal abuse has to occur for Foie Gras to be produced. The principal of Foie Gras is that it is enlarged liver.

phogirl69 03-22-2005 05:33 AM

Do they sell foie gras anywhere in regular grocery stores like Ralphs or Albertsons, or do you have to go to specialty stores. I remember when I was a kid eating something called "Pate" (in French) I think it is something similar to Foie Gras, but I am not sure. I am really craving it now though, I don't know where to buy it though. It's great with toast. I am so hungry now.

I got some foie gras from my gf as a present today, it was nice. One of my favorite edible thingies around.

BVF 03-22-2005 06:34 AM

I'd try it as long as I could make a thin patty of it and pan fry it in some bacon fat.

swedguy 03-22-2005 07:06 AM

I've nver tried, but every time I walk by it in the deli I say that I should try it. I will this week :)
My most recent addiction is pasta with truffle butter. Highly addictive.
