SATA Drives ............ Question..........

I will need a SATA controller with RAID capabilities right?

Basicaly I want the two drives to NOT mirror each other but the other RAID type..........

Now these drives much faster than typical IDE or ATA?

Any info on this

Thanks

I have SATA2 and it seems to be quite a bit faster than ATA.

Dunno about what you need, it's handled by my motherboard.

TO have any form of raid you will need a raid controller, it can be software or hardware.

IDE/ATA speeds are about 133 MB/Sec while SATA is 150 MB/Sec.

And you're looking for RAID 0 [not true RAID]

Most modern day motherboards have build in RAID capability so you should check into that before investing in a controller card, although they aren't that expensive $30-50 for 2 drive capacity.

I'm running SATA Raid 0 and it is fast as fuck when playing video games or editing video. If you have a ton of small files that are being manipulated you might not see a huge increase in speed. But, with large files, it's definately worth it.

I also boot from an SATA drive, and use standard IDE drives for bulk storage. The single SATA drive is quite a bit faster than the standard IDE drive.

Plus, an added bonus - the SATA drives are super quiet.

That's way too geeky.
