Violence Begets Violence

This study is dated, but still quite revealing...

1994 World Bank study of statistics supplied by the 36 richest countries in the world.

Of the 88,649 gun deaths reported by all the countries, the United States accounted for 45 percent.

Japan, where very few people own guns, averages 124 gun-related attacks a year, and less than 1 percent end in death. Police often raid the homes of those suspected of having weapons.

The study found that gun-related deaths were five to six times higher in the Americas than in Europe or Australia and New Zealand and 95 times higher than in Asia.

Here are gun-related deaths per 100,000 people in the world's 36 richest countries in 1994:

United States 14.24
Brazil 12.95
Mexico 12.69
Estonia 12.26

France 5.15
Canada 4.31
Norway 3.82

FACT: A gun in the home increases the risk of homicide of a household member by 3 times and the risk of suicide by 5 times compared to homes where no gun is present.

FACT: Contrary to popular belief, young children do possess the physical strength to fire a gun: 25% of 3-to-4-year-olds, 70% of 5-to-6-year-olds, and 90% of 7-to-8-year-olds can fire most handguns.

FACT: Among 26 industrialized nations, 86% of gun deaths among children under age 15 occurred in the United States.

FACT: Taxpayers pay more than 85% of the medical cost for treatment of firearm-related injuries.

FACT: While handguns account for only one-third of all firearms owned in the United States, they account for more than two-thirds of all firearm-related deaths each year. A gun kept in the home is 22 times more likely to be used in a homicide, suicide or unintentional shooting than to be used in self-defense.

FACT: Every two years more Americans die from firearm injuries than the total number of American soldiers killed during the 8-year Vietnam War. In 1999, the total number of people killed by guns in the United States was 28,874,a 6% decrease from 1998 figures.

then again it is not because of the gun itself... its like anything, you can never pin it down to one...for every experienced gun collectioner theres a fucking junky who fucks it up for the rest.. BUT...if that stupid junky had decided to kill lets say his mother, but had spent all the money he had on freebase, you think it'll stop him from non-surgically remove her vocal chords with his teeth?

as far as suicides that shit is just blatant...who the fuck decides not to kill himself cuz he does not own a gun%?!\%

now chances are that X junky will kill another Y gun-owning junky, or sumtin like that. all those dead people werent fucking saints...they had dope debts, too much mouth, whatever it was, it was enough for someone to decide to end his life...
everybody that works illegally is aware that they practically have no legal recourses, wether its on the good or bad side of the gun, therefore they are aware of the possible outcome. if you cant stand the heat...do i have to say it?

as far as lost bullets, or hollywood-movie typa situations...they DO happen...and thats unfair

since WHEN has life been fair...cars kill people everyday, i dont see you ride yo fuckin bike to work... and if you do, you might just put yourself at risk and get hit by a vehicle and BOOM, be the first case of bicycle suicide ever??

i got an idea, lets forbid EVERYTHING

faggotz

whatever.... you still have no argument even at 30k if doc's do actually kill 120k people per year.

That's still 4X teh amount..

WTF makes you think the burglar wont have a knife or gun?? What if theres 2 of them? When they pop your ass or simply over power or out number you atleast your friends can say, "hey atleast GatorB wasn't a gun owning pussy he went out swinging his keyboard at those thugs"

I'll never understand why people think you need to fight fair when somone is breaking into your house. Yea when you have an arguement with someone, use your fists, but when someone is breaking into your house the burglar is the first to fight dirty by trying to suprise you so why the fuck do I need to give them a fighting chance when I was minding my own fucking business??? If you dont think a handgun that shoots a small rifle round is special then you dont know much about guns. They have just gotten a contract with the armed forces and soon this will be the main handgun in use by them.

Ten More Die Today In School Shooting

Officials: Student's rampage leaves 10 dead

Witness describes gunman grinning, waving

Monday, March 21, 2005 Posted: 10:52 PM EST (0352 GMT)
Emergency personnel secure the area around Red Lake High School in Red Lake, Minnesota, Monday.

(CNN) -- A student on Monday killed two of his grandparents, then went on a shooting rampage at his Minnesota high school, killing seven people and wounding as many as 13 others before killing himself, officials said.

FBI Special Agent Paul McCabe told reporters the dead include a female teacher, a male security officer and four students at Red Lake High School.

"We believe that one of those students is the shooter," McCabe said.

The FBI office in Minneapolis later said two more wounded students had died.

The school, about 240 miles north of the Twin Cities, was evacuated and locked down, McCabe said.

"At this time, we believe he was acting alone," he said, refusing to comment on a possible motive, adding, "It's far too early in the investigation."

The slain students were shot in one room, he said.

"Apparently, he walked down the hallway shooting and then he entered a classroom, he shot several students and a teacher, then himself," said Roman Stately, with the Red Lake Fire Department, who arrived at the high school moments after the shootings.

Authorities discovered about an hour later that the boy had shot and killed his grandmother and grandfather, a veteran of the police force, Stately told KARE-TV.

Stately said the boy used his grandfather's police-issued weapon in the school rampage.

na, according to these guys using a gun to defend yourself, even if the bad guy has one is "pussy like" the "macho" thing to do would have been to box it out with the guy as he shoots at you.
