:mad Who gives a fuck, let em take STEROIDS!!!!!

Not a sports fan. But I got stuck sitting through those boring ass senate meetings today because NY_Tim AKA Timmy2times, (like so many of you) is for some reason enamored with how far a guy can hit a ball with a stick, I guess I just don't get it.

But regardless, I do have a few comments about the players using steroids to enhance their performance.

1) chemical enhancement of the human body is technology, it makes any physical competition more exciting. They allow race cars to have jacked up engines and nitrous...why not allow people to do the same to themselves???

2) I despise any laws or government intervention to protect us from ourselves. Like seatbelt laws...they are stupid. Who the fuck is the government to tell me I can't put myself in danger (as long as I'm not endangering others). It's big brother creating sheep that can't take care of themselves and rely on the government to protect them from themselves. One more level of control.

3) everyone is so worried about the players being "role models" and causing kids to emulate their behavior. Parents in this country need to get off their fucking asses, step up to the plate and "parent" their own goddamn kids. How about instilling morals and intelligence in your children yourself, allowing them to make the right decision themselves...but I guess it's easier to sit on your ass and let everyone else be responsible for their child's up-bringing. Raise your kids right and it won't matter what other people, video games, or fictional characters do, your children will make choices based on how you taught them regardless of what Sammy Sosa does. I have a little unpleasant news for you: If your kid OD's on drugs or commits a crime, then you suck as a parent and should take responsibility for not doing your fucking job!

It's stupid, and the government should butt out.

That's just my

Every sport creates certain rules to keep things "fair", forcing the competitors to rely on SKILL, not technology.

Every sport does this.

There was a Wired magazine column about separating sports and Olympics into two forms - all natural and synthetic. Didn't sound like a bad idea, as watching two teams of fully steroided out monsters beat the shit out of each other sounds pretty cool. However, I don't think the natural competitors would ever stay natural for too long (like those former men competing against women - there's too much desire to win and they'll always be cheaters).

However, I have to agree; if they know the dangers and sports technology can refine it since it'll be legal, why not let them do it? Then again, I'm also for the legalization of drugs and prostitution, so take my opinions with a grain of sand.

And that's fine, I'm not against rules...but let the sport worry about it...It has nothing to do with the senate, and the "poor me" parents of sheep kids who act like players who make bad choices and break those rules need to get a grip.

It isn't cheating if their all doing it, which they are. Pro athletes, most of them, do take anabolics and hormones like hgh (human growth hormone) for performence enhancement and recooperation...period. They all do it so who gives a fuck.

Sure let's allow steroids, and then metal bats and corking of bats, sandpapering the ball etc etc...

as far as Ray Vega's comment, I don't really agree about what he said about the governemnt laws to prevent injury. You know the type of people that would sue the city or state, because there wasn't a seatbelt law and they got into an accident. Then when the city or state cash flow is low from lawsuits.... taxes go up etc etc.

Ray, your 3rd point, I agree with. I also feel bad when big time role models have to worry about their decisions in life with regards to being a role model. They can't do what they really want to do because they are "role models".

oh no...

The only thing I have a problem with is censorship w/ music and such, for example the tragic Columbine shooting was blamed on music...Marliyn Manson and the like..
On the same note, Walmart sells only "edited" versions of albums, w/ no explicit lyrics, but yet they sell guns...wtf?

I hear what you're saying but the bottom line is that it's an illegal substance all together.

the only thing that bothers me is the countless young fans that will grow up thinking it is cool to take drugs to enhance performance

it is not a good example for somoene who is in the spotlight.

being a pro athelte should be a privelege...you have a duty once you make that kind of money to play a sport..your duty is to the young fans.

thinking things through is not all that prevalent in this business...but i would have thought that would be of paramount importance

I do see your point, but that's a whole other can of worms that pisses me off. If someone is too fucking stupid to protect themselves, they die...it's called evolution, survival of the fittest.

We need major tort reform in this country. A lawsuit should go before a panel who decides if it is even allowed to go to a court. Only cases that show a preponderance of the evidence of gross negligence on the part of the person being sued should be allowed to go to suit, and even then the burden of proof for a decision in a civil suit should be raised from "preponderance of the evidence" to "beyond reasonable doubt". If that happened, our insurance, taxes, and most expenses (especially medical) would drop dramatically. And those of us who have no common sense would eventually die out or watch what the fuck they are doing.

The whole issue there is accountability. We are stuck in this country at looking for "who is responsible" when something bad happens. Most of the time it's either the persons own fault, or nobody's fault...but most people cannot face that fact and want restitution from someone.

It's all fun and games until someone loses an eye, then it's fun and games you can't see...

they should be able to compete for records juice free, the greats set records without juice, unfair to them if new players juice.

Not wearing your seatbelt endangers others... If you hit a wall at 60 mph and get ejected through the front window, your dead body could easily score a few hits on unsuspecting bystanders. I think it'd be hilarious if your body flew through the front window of a store though, it'd be one hell of a way to exit life

Indeed. But the main driving force behind the seatbelt laws are insurance rates. It's cheaper to not have to fix people when they have a wreck, than it is to put them back together because they weren't restrained.

I'm totally down for survival of the fittest, though.

And...That leads right back to my Civil Suit reform point...
If you couldn't get an insurance settlement because you were too stupid to wear a seatbelt, the rates wouldn't go up. Not to mention the taxes that we would save which are created by enforcement of the seatbelt laws and support of the court systems.

Make putting them back together their problem, not the insurance company's.
