i've fallen in love

with my new blackberry

there have been several electronic highlights in my life. the first time i connected to the internet at home. first time i installed netscape.

my first laptop (powerbook 1400), my first digital camera.

this is one of those times: my blackberry 7290 is simply awesome. i have a hard time understanding how i lived without one before now. it's been less than 3 days, and i think i would choose the bb over my laptop.

this is the future (imo)...

Can you use these to upload files to your server or do html editing with them? Also what's the price on those monthly?

Think 56k. Surfing isn't great...but when you don't have access to a computer it will do. I wouldn't surf on mine though if i had a computer in front of me.

it's not 'fast', but it's decent. and if you surf mobile type sites, it's actually quite fast. news, weather, finance, sports, entertainment, chat, etc are very quick.

you should definitely think about getting one. the email on this thing is faster than on my laptop. sms is threaded (looks just like icq), icq and aim run perfectly, can make notes, calendar notes, etc. and type at 30 words/minute easily - i get faster everyday

i can't overstate just how much i am digging this thing...

Download VeriChat for ICQ.

if you visit BlackBerryForums.com there is a "Killer Apps" thread there. Some great 3rd party programs out there for the BB.

you'd be suprised how quick you get used to the size. I always get "how can you use that thing to talk" from people. It actually becomes weird using a regular sized cell phone.

Well I went to the store yesterday to check it out, the only carrier that sells it here is Vodafone and they have totally "vodafonized" the phone stuffing every crappy service they have in the damn thing. This seriously made me reconsider getting one, e-mail functions will go throuhg a [email protected] account and not actual direct from my own accounts.

I've been looking at the Nokia Comm 9300, maybe I'll get that but I'm not sure yet. Maybe I'll just wait till better phones come out... the Vodafone VPA IV is about the ultimate phone and will be coming out sometime this year (sept. I believe)... also known as T-Mobile MDA IV or HTV Universal.

$60 a month for unlimited usage... is that on top of a phone plan?

Rogers is pretty pricey with their data plans.

Odd, you'll be paying for the system access fee ($6.95) and 911 fees on 2 plans, so it would almost make more sense to consolidate them both onto a single phone, wouldn't it? I looked into pricing out the BB and keeping my cell phone and it saved a few dollars to combine the two.

yes, in terms of absolute cost, you are correct. however, i don't like using the 7290 for voice. just seems too weird...

plus, i really like being able to send pictures via the phone, not possible with bb...

with fido, i get unlimited usage for $20/month on my hiptop, but i have to have a voice plan.

I rarely ever use my phone as a phone, I usually forward my calls to my home or office land line. I usually use my cell when I'm on the road or at a convention so that's why I'm only taking the 200 minute phone plan. I would hate to have a cell and a blackberry though, too many electronics in my pockets at that point.

Actually I think it's $1/minute if you're a data only customer. That's what I read when looking at the data only plans.

haha, maybe. but i've been weighing a bb + cell vs a laptop. guess which wins?

read that too, but regardless it seems i'm getting 25 cents. doesn't matter though since i'll only use it if someone's having a heartattack.

that's pretty cool.

i use my hiptop as a phone anyways, so it's not big deal. dialing is a little inconvenient, but i got used to it.

my phone plan is only $30/month, so it's not too bad.

wow I wish they offered that here, we can buy data plans ahead or just pay per KB. The largest dataplans still cost like $3/MB

I don't think I can trust myself with one of those. I lose my cell phone all the time. If I were to lose something that small and valuable, it would stress me the fuck out. Different strokes for different folks.
