i've fallen in love

with my new blackberry :)

there have been several electronic highlights in my life. the first time i connected to the internet at home. first time i installed netscape.

my first laptop (powerbook 1400), my first digital camera.

this is one of those times: my blackberry 7290 is simply awesome. i have a hard time understanding how i lived without one before now. it's been less than 3 days, and i think i would choose the bb over my laptop.

this is the future (imo)... :glugglug

BRISK 03-15-2005 12:32 AM

I love the BlackBerry too :thumbsup :thumbsup

Can you use these to upload files to your server or do html editing with them? Also what's the price on those monthly?

smack 03-15-2005 12:41 AM

my buddy just got one of those today. i can't believe how fucking powerful they are. looks like i'm gonna need to get one next week.

Brujah 03-15-2005 12:46 AM

I can't thumb type. :(

Young 03-15-2005 12:48 AM

Great choice Quiet! I hope some of my posts influenced you and nudged you into the right direction. I can't live without mine and go through withdrawal symptoms whenever I misplace it in my house.

Think 56k. Surfing isn't great...but when you don't have access to a computer it will do. I wouldn't surf on mine though if i had a computer in front of me.

it's not 'fast', but it's decent. and if you surf mobile type sites, it's actually quite fast. news, weather, finance, sports, entertainment, chat, etc are very quick.

you should definitely think about getting one. the email on this thing is faster than on my laptop. sms is threaded (looks just like icq), icq and aim run perfectly, can make notes, calendar notes, etc. and type at 30 words/minute easily - i get faster everyday :)

i can't overstate just how much i am digging this thing...

Download VeriChat for ICQ.

if you visit BlackBerryForums.com there is a "Killer Apps" thread there. Some great 3rd party programs out there for the BB.

haven't tried either (i've only had it for 72 hours), but i'm sure there is certainly a way to do both. i'm paying 60 bucks/month CAD for unlimited usage...

you'd be suprised how quick you get used to the size. I always get "how can you use that thing to talk" from people. It actually becomes weird using a regular sized cell phone.

tical 03-15-2005 01:19 AM

adonthenet 03-15-2005 01:20 AM

I love mine more then you love yours! :P

Young 03-15-2005 01:21 AM

Quiet....have you discovered the "Alt+Tab" like function yet?

WiredGuy 03-15-2005 01:54 AM

Mine is still in transit. I'm waiting for mine to get here so I would appreciate you telling me for the time being that its nothing special and I'm not missing out on anything :)

pradaboy 03-15-2005 01:59 AM

Well I went to the store yesterday to check it out, the only carrier that sells it here is Vodafone and they have totally "vodafonized" the phone stuffing every crappy service they have in the damn thing. This seriously made me reconsider getting one, e-mail functions will go throuhg a [email protected] account and not actual direct from my own accounts.

I've been looking at the Nokia Comm 9300, maybe I'll get that but I'm not sure yet. Maybe I'll just wait till better phones come out... the Vodafone VPA IV is about the ultimate phone and will be coming out sometime this year (sept. I believe)... also known as T-Mobile MDA IV or HTV Universal.

$60 a month for unlimited usage... is that on top of a phone plan?

Rogers is pretty pricey with their data plans.

no, that's it. you can d0 90 bucks for full on voice and unlimited data. but i already have a cell phone, so i just use the bb for data....

flashfire 03-15-2005 02:38 AM

I'd rather have a good laptop

Odd, you'll be paying for the system access fee ($6.95) and 911 fees on 2 plans, so it would almost make more sense to consolidate them both onto a single phone, wouldn't it? I looked into pricing out the BB and keeping my cell phone and it saved a few dollars to combine the two.

PHPdude 03-15-2005 02:44 AM

that's one nice piece of equipment

WG

yes, in terms of absolute cost, you are correct. however, i don't like using the 7290 for voice. just seems too weird...

plus, i really like being able to send pictures via the phone, not possible with bb...

so you have no voice plan whatsoever on the blackberry? they let you do that?

with fido, i get unlimited usage for $20/month on my hiptop, but i have to have a voice plan.

correct. no voice plan. 60 bucks a month.

i can stil make calls (25cents/minute) but would only do that in an emergency...

I rarely ever use my phone as a phone, I usually forward my calls to my home or office land line. I usually use my cell when I'm on the road or at a convention so that's why I'm only taking the 200 minute phone plan. I would hate to have a cell and a blackberry though, too many electronics in my pockets at that point.

Actually I think it's $1/minute if you're a data only customer. That's what I read when looking at the data only plans.

haha, maybe. but i've been weighing a bb + cell vs a laptop. guess which wins?

read that too, but regardless it seems i'm getting 25 cents. doesn't matter though since i'll only use it if someone's having a heartattack.

that's pretty cool.

i use my hiptop as a phone anyways, so it's not big deal. dialing is a little inconvenient, but i got used to it.

my phone plan is only $30/month, so it's not too bad.

wow I wish they offered that here, we can buy data plans ahead or just pay per KB. The largest dataplans still cost like $3/MB :(

pretty much. it's a world phone (quad band), so should be connected just about anywhere there is cellular service...

I don't think I can trust myself with one of those. I lose my cell phone all the time. If I were to lose something that small and valuable, it would stress me the fuck out. Different strokes for different folks. :winkwink:

Ok I will check it out if it can connect world wide as that is very useful.

I have heard so much about this damn thing I may just have to get myself one soon.

I'm not sure how your carrier works but here you have to get an additional plan to cover international blackberry usage :2 cents:
