Nope, probably not. It's the same game as always, except for more cars and tracks and few little tweaks (like B Spec mode).

I have it and play it in HD.
Best racing game I've ever seen.
If you're into these sorts of games you'll like it.

Even in HD, the graphics stink.

Yes, but at higher resolutions the game becomes super blocky. There is no anti-aliasing so every line is extremely jagged.

Piss poor graphics. I'm very disappointed.

i am VERY disappointed. overall it's a decent game but the navigation of the menus is poorly thought out. no in race option to restart the race, so you have to quit.. cancel the replay.. back out to the main menu.. choose your race again.. choose your race mode.. accept the race.. and finally the race starts again.

the stupid coffe break during the license tests is so annoying. they are easier to get than past GT's though. and the rally races are crazy fun. that's my favorite part of the game by far.

any of you get the new racing wheel that is supposed to be kickass for the game? 180 degree one I think it is. It is kinda pricey

From what I seen on gamer sites, it's not all that great. I'll have to play it to be the judge though. I wonder how it compares to Project Gotham?

I'm still waiting for my PS2 gaming shit to come ...
So far I only got GT4 but still waiting for the PS2 Slim Package / San Andreas to arrive

If you liked the older versions you'll like this one. They went back to #2s formula and added alot of features.

Gran Turismo 4 is awsome if you realize the following things before turning it on. First, the game was designed to be played using the new 900 degree steering wheel from logitech. Second, the graphics, when taking into account the game is on the PS2, are stunning. Definitly the prettiest PS2 game yet. The physics are weird at first if you're used to playing gran turismo 3, but they feel much more realistic, and, if you play with the wheel, you can actually sense what the car is about to do now. You start with $10,000 (unless you're a pussy and transfer 100k from gt3) which means you'd better enjoy understeering front wheel drive cars or underpowered mid 80's rwd cars for the first day or so.

So many people had such high expectations (expecting the game to be 100% perfect in everyway), so naturally, they were upset to see that the game has its share of annoying traits. However, if you're into racing games like I am, it's definitly the most realistic racing game to hit the PS2, and if I do say so myself, the best game for the PS2 to date.

Don't try to compare GT4 to any shitty hardcore arcade racers like the burnout series, the need for speed underground games, or project gotham racing, as GT4 wasnt made for the wankers that think those games are good.

Hold off on braking a little to long? Have fun as you fly off onto the grass and into the wall. Think you can drive a 10 lap race using supersoft "cheater" tires without pitting? Fuck off. Follow the wrong racing line and get passed by the AI? Happens all the time.

Now that brings me to my biggest gripe. The AI in gt4 has NOT been improved since GT3, despite what anyone may say. The AI still smash into you from behind if you brake early, they still turn in and smash into you if you're taking the passing line on a corner, they still drive off the course alot, and well... If you've ever driven on a highway surrounded by drunk drivers, that'll give you a good idea of what to expect in terms of AI.

The tracks in GT4 are spot on, all the originals from as far back as GT1 are back, as are tons of new real tracks (finally, real tracks!!). The best addition to the game in terms of tracks are the Nurburgring (23km of highspeed racing with 1000m of elevation change), De le sarthe (host of the infamous 24 hours of Le Mans race), and Suzuka (hard as hell, I still scrub to much speed on a few corners) to name a few. I've seen enough incar videos of cars on the nurburgring to know that the ingame version is spot on down to the meter, meaning its just as narrow as its real life counterpart. De La Sarthe is a perfect recreation of the real track as well, as are all the other real tracks included.

700 cars, 50 someodd tracks, enough small stuff to keep an average gamer occupied for 6 months, and some VERY realistic sounds make GT4 shine in more ways than one. The people who complain about it are either guys who think the Colin Mcrae rally games are realistic, or the guys who'd rather be shopping for purses (damn metros). If you're into racing and you keep your expectations within reason, and you have the 900 degree steering wheel, you'll be looking at huge profit losses for the next month. Oh, and if you're currently dating or married, refrain from buying this game, you'll be more aroused by it than by your significant other

Er, so yeah, hopefully that helped.

The PS2 couldn't handle damage...it would have dramtically slowed the game down and taken the pixels away from where they were most needed. An Engine that could handle that stuff would never run on the PS2.

GT5 for PS3....should be incredible.
